I have been in the teaching field in one form or another for about 18 years. I received a degree in elementary education and then took courses on a graduate level to get certified as a Teacher of the Handicapped. My primary work experience has been with special needs students and I have dealt with children with a variety of learning disabilities as well as emotional disabilities. I have also completing my Master's online in Educational Administration.
Currently I am working with high school students who have multiple disabilities. Most of my students are nonverbal and in wheelchairs. This has been both a challenging and a rewarding experience trying to reach these students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
