The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) (Applied Mathematics)
Stevens Institute of Technology (Graduate Coursework)
My name is Kyle and recently I have obtained my Bachelor's degree for Applied Mathematics at the College of New Jersey, and I have been on the Dean's List for 7 out of 8 semesters in my undergraduate career. Also, I am currently in the process of obtaining my Master's degree in the same field at Stevens Institute of Technology.
For 5 summers, I was employed by the Chester Board of Education to be a Camp Counselor for Camp Achieve, which is an extended school year program for children with special needs. There, I collaborated with certified special education instructors by helping children from kindergarten to 5th grade enhance their mathematical capabilities and logic skills. Also, I have had experience as a Math and Science tutor at The College of New Jersey's Tutoring Center, where I assisted college students in subjects that included, but were not limited to, Calculus A-C, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. Also, I was held accountable for recording my students' progresses so that I would see where improvements have been made, and what areas needed more attention.
With these qualifications, I have developed various methods in helping students further their learning experience in a mathematical field. First, I determine my client's method of learning. Since everyone learns math, or any subject at that matter, differently, I find that this is essential when it comes to tutoring. Also, I am detailed in explaining a topic that seems to be unclear at first. Often, many students have trouble learning "the textbook way," so I give them multiple ways of looking at the same problem to make it more comprehensible.
That all being said, I will do everything in my ability to make sure that my clients succeed in the subject they come to me for. If you need help in any math subject, any at all, I would be more than happy to work with you. Kyle was always on time, always prepared and knew how to teach algebra in a way that my son could understand. My son went from having an F and failing every test, to literally getting A's on every test since Kyle started tutoring him. He ended up with an 85 for the marking period up from at 65 prior to hiring Kyle.
Highly recommend Kyle.
Blessed to find Kyle who happen to live in the same town, and who is a Math major. My kids liked the session and understood a lot of their class work. I am able to say Kyle showed me how to do it while working on her math packet. Looking forward to summer sessions to head start my kids for the next school year. Thanks Kyle.
My daughter thanked me profusely for finding him after the session. She felt very comfortable with Kyle and thinks that he is just what she needs to boost her confidence and abilities. He is able to clarify concepts and even had her look ahead to the next materials to be covered.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Out of all the subjects I tutor at The College of New Jersey, Differential Equations is, by far, my favorite. My individual session client received an A- for the course, and she stated that I was a big factor in that.
Since Differential Equations is a very detailed and procedural subject, my methods for tutoring it involve practicing it enough that 'stupid mistakes' do not come about as frequently for my students. This is important, as one tiny mistake can change the entire problem.
Linear Algebra is one of the many subjects I tutor over at The College of New Jersey. One of my clients had a professor, who is notorious for how difficult he makes his courses, for this subject. She claimed that I was the main reason she was passing the course.
My methods for tutoring Linear include dissecting problems piece by piece so they're not as intimidating. Also, I provide easier ways to analyze the concepts and procedures that allow people to understand more than just 'the textbook way.'
