As a recent summa cum laude graduate, I understand that dedication to your studies and enjoying learning can pay off beautifully. I have worked as a tutor since high school and have over five years of experience editing papers and checking them for style, content, and spelling/grammatical errors, as well as offering advice on how to improve their work. I have also worked with students on their reading skills, helping them to understand the passages that they have read and retain that understanding in preparation for quizzes or tests.
What I love most about tutoring is helping a student reach their maximum potential. During my experience working with others, I have learned that many young people struggle with reading and writing. Often, these students believe that reading is "boring" or that writing is "too hard." In many of these cases the problem is not with the student but with teachers who try to make all students go at the exact same pace. My goal is not to see where a student "should be" and judge them harshly, but instead to meet them where they are and help them strengthen their skills from there.
My goal is to keep students engaged in and challenged by their work without overloading them with too much. After every session, I assign a small amount of homework in order to help them work on their skills outside of tutoring sessions. For example: I may assign a short essay for students working on their writing skills, or a brief reading assignment for those working on reading skills.
I specialize in tutoring writing skills, with a focus on essay writing and analytical writing (ex: book reports), as well as improving students' skills in areas concerning grammar, proofreading, and vocabulary. I also teach English reading skills to students of all grades.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
