In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently teach first grade. I have taught first grade for 8 years. I currently hold a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in reading. I have worked with students from various backgrounds and ability levels. I have experience in designing and implementing lessons in reading/listening comprehension, phonics, Wilson Fundations, grammar, and writing.
I have designed and implemented various hands on activities that provide students with an opportunity to explore words in a fun and interactive way. These activities provide students with skills they need to help with spelling, reading, decoding, and comprehension. I also have experience using the Wilson Fundations program. I have received a master's degree in reading at Grand Canyon University.
I do not have a special education certification but I have had a lot of experience working with students with learning disabilities. These students have been mainstreamed into my classroom and I have provided them with proper accommodations to meet the needs of their ability levels. These are students who have been pulled from my class for language arts/math to go with our resource teacher for a period or two throughout the day. If your child struggles with language arts or math, I am more than capable of designing instruction that will provide them with a positive learning experience.
