When I first started my college journey, I hadn't a clue about what I wanted to do. Over the years, I've narrowed it down to two things: I love working with people, and I love helping them learn. I've spent years working for other tutoring/test prep companies and have decided to venture out on my own.

When I first started my college journey, I hadn't a clue about what I wanted to do. Over the years, I've narrowed it down to two things: I love working with people, and I love helping them learn. I've spent years working for other tutoring/test prep companies and have decided to venture out on my own.

As a graduate with a degree in Biochemistry, I have a very strong foundation in math and science. When I took my own SAT over 10 years ago, I scored a 2220 (with an 800 on Math, 700 in Reading, and 720 in Writing). I have helped students some of my students get an 800 on at least one section on the SAT (as well as a 36 on at least one section in the ACT). Believe it or not, some of my students have ended up with higher official scores than me. I have experience with AP exams as well. I have helped several students score a 5 in AP Biology, Physics 1 & 2, and Calculus.

I sincerely hope that I can help you gain a better understanding of those subjects. I live in the Northern NJ Area, and I currently have availability in the evenings.

I have over 5+ years of experience teaching students the rules and tricks needed to do well on the ACT English. I scored a composite score of 34 on my own ACT.
SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

While the SAT Reading and Writing sections have changed in recent years, some things have remained the same: the passages are usually long, and boring, and the questions are confusing. I can help you get the score that you want, regardless of what you are struggling with. I can teach you techniques to improve your reading speed as well as accuracy. I have over 5 years of tutoring experience with the SAT. Many of my students have scored in the high 600s, 700s, (and a few 800s as well)!

Chemistry,

Chemistry

For many students, chemistry is like a foreign language. You are expected to know new concepts like "moles", "molar mass", and "solubility". It can be very intimidating when you first learn the material. But, believe it or not, a lot of chemistry is built from a foundation of relatively simple concepts. I try to figure out if there are any gaps in my students' knowledge, and I help them understand what they are doing in their classes. I have a bachelors degree in biochemistry. I have taught students at the high school, college, and AP level of chemistry.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

When I took the SATs, I scored an 800 on the Math section. When I took AP Calc, I scored a 5 on the exam. Reading those things, you might think that I'm some sort of math genius. Nothing could be further from the truth. Truth be told, I wasn't always good at math. It didn't come naturally, and frankly, it didn't make a lot of sense. However, in high school, I was fortunate enough to have a few really enthusiastic teachers. They helped me overcome my weaknesses; and I realized "hey, this stuff actually kinda makes sense. And you know what? I'm not too bad at it..." That's my goal for my students. Whether or not you want to have a future career in math, I want to help you realize that math doesn't have to be scary, and that you CAN do it.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Whenever I tell a student that I've scored an 800 in the Math section of the SAT, their eyes kind of bug out, and they look at me like I'm a freak. What makes the math section so difficult is that students are expected have an extremely solid foundation of the math that they have taken over their high school careers. Some of the rules that they are required to know are very random (and they may not have covered that topic in their class). When I work with students I go over the most important concepts, the ones that show up the most frequently on the test, in order to maximize their score with the least amount of effort. I have had many students score in the high 600s, 700s, (and several 800s as well!).

ACT Math,

ACT Math

The ACT math is tricky because you are expected to answer 60 questions in 60 minutes. A student is required to have a solid foundation in high school math (most notably algebra 2, trigonometry, and geometry). I try to help students by teaching them the most important concepts, the ones that are tested over and over again on the ACT. I also teach them various techniques to help work through a problem when they draw a blank.

As graduate with a degree in Biochemistry, I am fully aware of how difficult Organic Chemistry is. It is generally considered to be a gateway course, particularly for premed students. I've seen many students struggle in Ochem. Heck, I was one of those students. But, fear not. Even if you don't understand a single word in lecture, you CAN pass the class, and I can help with that. No matter your background, whether you love chemistry or hate it, I CAN help you get the grade you want.

Saved my grade!

I had failed out of organic chemistry B last semester and, despite studying the various concepts over the summer, felt like I was getting nowhere. Kevin helped me learn HOW to think about the concepts for my organic chemistry exam. He helped me organize all the information for the unit (i.e. these are the ways we know to make a ketone, these are the ways we know to add carbons) which drastically improved my understanding of what was being taught as well as its significance. I ended up scoring an A (pre-curve!!) on the first exam and couldn't be more grateful to him! He has been an invaluable resource and money well invested.

Excellent communication and extremely helpful!

Kevin is a wonderful communicator and he is very organized. He puts together a plan that is tailored to the student that he is working with. This is especially appreciated during these times of virtual learning.

Great experience!

Kevin responded promptly to my inquiry concerning the issues my daughter is having in HS precalc. She really responded well the first session and we will be continuing!

Kevin does a great job making the concepts usable

Kevin focuses on getting the important stuff down and building a solid foundation. Every time my son meters with Kevin he feels more confident about Physics and Algebra

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Words cannot express how impressed I am with Kevin's tutoring style. He is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and puts my daughter at ease. He makes learning engaging and fun and my daughter is very happy and comfortable with Kevin. I am super grateful that we have found him. He's truly amazing.

Patient and a real partner

He works with my son so well, patient and calm. My son ends the session feeling empowered. Clear instruction & process. Highly recommend. We feel lucky to have support.

Unbelievably knowledgeable and excellent tutor

My son has now had Kevin twice and has said the AP Physics information is easier to understand after Kevin explains it to him. Apparently this course is one that builds and builds, so if you do not have a solid foundation, in a few months you will be completely lost. Therefore, we are gladly having Kevin weekly going forward to keep my son on track to excel in this class. Thanks to Kevin my son is doing A work!!

Great teacher

Great teacher. Very patient and knowledgeable. My son's grades improved a lot after Kevin started helping him. Best recommendation for chemistry, algebra, biology and geometry.

Great, knowledgeable, and helpful Algebra 2 tutor

Kevin is an amazing tutor! We have worked with Kevin as needed for 2 years for topics ranging from Algebra 2 to Precalculus to SAT preparation. Kevin always breaks things down in an effective manner. Plus, we were able to either set a regular time for a session each week or set a session as needed depending on my daughter’s academic demands. I highly recommend Kevin.

I would definitely hire Kevin again.

Kevin was good with his communication regarding arrival times. He got to work immediately and explained things in a manner that my son could understand. I would definitely use him in the future.
