New Jersey Dental School (Enrolled)
Hello all! My name is Neel and I am a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Engineering, one of the top engineering schools in the country. I then went on to study dentistry at the Rutgers school of Dental Medicine. Currently I am specializing in Prosthetic Dentistry at the same institution. Ever since high school I have been tutoring my classmates in my math and science classes and hope that my experience will help you as well! The universe is a splendid place and Math/Science is how we can appreciate its beauty. Understanding this is the secret to excelling in those subjects in school. Other tutors focus on solely learning for school but I don't work that way. I don't want to just teach you, I also want to be able to pass along my love for the subjects as well! This will allow you to excel and learn on your own once our time together is done. I want to pass on a passion for knowledge and learning - which of course will get you good grades as a by-product!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra is a very special subject. It's something that can be applied in virtually anything! A good understanding of algebra can be useful in everything from economics to the physical sciences. Not to mention that it is essential to understanding all the fields of math that come after it. Algebra isn't just about memorizing rules and just following them blindly. It's about learning how to think logically and also requires a bit of creativity! My goal in tutoring algebra is to pass on the ability to think through problems logically, the essence of algebra.
Even though calculus is one of the most feared subjects in mathematics, there really is nothing to be afraid of. It is my favorite kind of math and it is probably the most useful tool in understanding how the world works. When the student has a good grasp of the fundamental concepts that underlie calculus, he or she can learn the rest with ease. My specialty is in teaching the concepts of calculus and seeing them in equations and graphs. I hope that with my help, you will develop a deeper understanding of what calculus really is and thus do well in your class / see and appreciate how powerful of a tool it is in understanding how the world works!
Chemistry is known as the "in between" science. Since Chemistry is applied Physics and Biology is applied Chemistry, we can understand a lot about both Physics and Biology through the study of Chemistry. A good foundation here will lead to success in the other two. My hopes in tutoring Chemistry are to provide the students with an understanding of the fundamental concepts governing all the things we see in the world of Chemistry.
Geometry is unlike any other field of mathematics. While most fields deal with graphs and complex equations, Geometry is mostly visual. Geometry is best learned with the use of various props to help visualize the shapes being studied. The best part is that the props can be easily found lying around anywhere! Lines, shapes, and angles are literally everywhere! So once you understand conceptually how and why the shapes are related, the actual equations and number crunching become easy! When I tutor Geometry, my focus is on understanding the fundamental concepts from where the equations come from.
As a dental student and a graduate in Biomedical Engineering, I have studied Anatomy and Physiology several times. While my specialty is in Head & Neck Anatomy, we were also responsible for learning the physiology of all organ systems.
Algebra 1 is the basis for all the math that comes after it. Without a proper understanding of these fundamental concepts we cannot understand those that come later. Many students that struggle here just need someone to sit down with them and express their confusion. Most concepts in Algebra 1 can be explained visually with various props which makes them easier to grasp. Using various things to explain, I can make learning algebra fun and interesting!
I took the SAT 3 times. The first time, my math score was around 600. Then I got a tutor who showed me key techniques that brought my score into the mid 700's. the next two times I took it. These techniques involve visualizing equations in your head instead of writing them down. They take quite a bit of practice but once you are able to do it, it allows you to solve problems MUCH more quickly. I hope to share the techniques that helped me so much with you if you choose me as your tutor!
