Rowan College at Burlington County (Education)
I feel like the happiest person in the world because I have the opportunity to do something I love for a living. I began tutoring when I was approached by a family friend whose 7-year-old daughter needed help reading. I was more than willing to take on that task. Since then, I have had plenty of success with elementary school students.
Currently, I am in my last semester as an education major in college. I have approximately 3 years of experience tutoring elementary school children. My goal is to teach preschool through 3rd grade students.
My academic career has been supplemented by multiple academic scholarships for my achievements. As someone who works hard to excel in whatever it is that I do, I find education very important. It is a very satisfying experience learning and grasping a brand new concept. It is even more rewarding to know that you have helped someone to reach that level of satisfaction. That is just one of the many things that I love about tutoring.
I enjoy engaging my students with fun and somewhat challenging math problems suited for their grade level. In an age where there are audio books, video games and things of that nature, I know how to make reading enjoyable and fun for younger students.
Math was my favorite subject in elementary school. I was privileged to have teachers who made it fun, interesting and easy to understand. I strive to have that same impact on students. There's no better satisfaction than seeing the light bulb go on and hearing a loud, "I got it!". During my approximately 3 years of tutorial elementary school children, I have helped several to come to an understanding of basic math concepts. Many have even developed a love of mathematics!
I love reading and writing. I truly do. As I reminisce on my childhood, I see a young girl carrying a small, transparent backpack full of books of all kinds. I see her sitting in a chair at the hair salon, enthralled by whatever it was she was reading that day. Books fascinated me so much, I wanted to write my own. At a young age I wrote several stories for my classmates to read. That hobby continues to this day. As a college student, my written work has been used as an example for other students to learn from. To me, that is an honor.
Please contact me about any questions that you have. I look forward to working with you! Let's achieve some goals together. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
