I am a qualified tutor in the following math areas: Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry.
Here are my credentials:
I have earned an B.S. in Management Information Systems from Rowan University. I also have my graduate endorsement certificate from Rowan University in Teacher of Students with Disabilities. In addition, I work as a part time math tutor for an agency that focuses on students with special needs. Some of these special needs include behavior disabilities and specific learning disabilities. I consider myself to be highly trained in helping students with different types of disabilities.
I am skilled in teaching NJCCCS including:
1. Number and numerical operations;
2. Geometry and measurement;
3. Patterns and algebra;
4. Mathematical processes;
I can provide experience as well as professional one-on-one attention. I have the ability to present math concepts in a simple, step-by-step approach geared towards math-averse students. I am patient with students and have tutored students ranging from elementary school age through high school. I am flexible and will work around the student's schedule. If students have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), I am adept at accommodating students who struggle with understanding math concepts.
In addition to my business management (computer) and math background, I played basketball and baseball in high school. I now officiate both of these sports at various levels. I also officiate Slow Pitch softball. I am very familiar with the rules of these sports and I can help your child develop learning, passion and understanding for playing these sports. I am a qualified tutor in the following math areas: Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry.

My middle school son had the pleasure of working with Kevin throughout this past school year (2014-2015). Kevin was great with my son. He is very patient and extremely knowledgeable. What kept us working with Kevin throughout the school year was that he was very accommodating and he would not end the tutoring session until my son proved to him that he completely understood the lesson. We will definitely be working with Kevin again next school year!
Kevin appears to be very knowledgeable and patient. My Son appears to motivated to attend more sessions with him. Look forward to more sessions.
My daughter needed help preparing for an Algebra 2 exam. Kevin was very helpful. She got a much needed "A" on the exam. We will definitely use Kevin again.
I highly recommend Kevin M. as a Math tutor. I am very pleased with how he helped my daughter readily resolve difficulties that she was having with freshman Algebra. Kevin addressed the problem areas that she was experiencing and gave fundamental instructions in a way that helped her understand Algebraic concepts. I had the opportunity to observe Kevin teach my daughter, and it was obvious that he engaged her attention throughout the sessions. Most importantly, Kevin looked forward to teaching. He requested information ahead of the time, in the form of quizzes and chapters that my daughter needed help with, and prepared strategies before the sessions in order to make tutoring time most productive. My husband (a certified English teacher) and I (a licensed counselor) both agree that Kevin has the ability to engage and teach students of all ages in the fundamentals and concepts of Mathematics.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified in Algebra 1. I am tutoring summer school students in Algebra I. In addition, I substitute teach in math classes including Algebra I in middle and high school daily and long-term. Occasionally, I set up group tutoring of students who need help in Algebra 1.
I am very good at explaining the following algebraic concepts, broken down in simple terms: rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers and polynomials. I can also explain the F.O.I.L. method of factoring and rules for exponents.
I am qualified in Algebra 2. Currently, I tutor summer school students in Algebra 2. In addition, I substitute teach math, including Algebra 2, in high school daily and long-term during the school year.
Some of my tutoring opportunities have allowed me to network and help other students that I have met. We have set up group tutoring that has worked out well.
I am very good at explaining the following algebraic concepts, broken down in simple terms:
equation of a line and their usage
slope-intercept form y=mx+b (when you know slope and the y-intercept)
point-slope y-y1=m(x-x1) when you know point
(x1,y1) and slope
standard form Ax+By=C (when you want to quickly find x and y intercepts)
quadratic formula including vertex (min/max) and discriminant
arithmetic sequence (constant difference) and geometric sequence (constant multiple)
I am very knowledgeable in baseball. I played baseball as a youth, and high school.
In addition, I also played college baseball.
My positions included: 1st base, outfield and pitcher. Now, I umpire Babe Ruth baseball for youth and Cal Ripken for younger kids. I also have helped coach kids when I was in college playing baseball.
Tutoring methods would be learning how to grip the ball for pitching, hitting the cut off man for outfields, learning how to turn the double play for infielders and covering bases. This is only some instruction, I will spend numerous hours with other things as well.
I consider myself to be extremely knowledgeable in basketball. I played basketball as a youth in high school and college. Next, I furthered my education and went to Burlington County College and played recreation basketball. While attending college, I helped to coach younger kids at various levels:(elementary an middle school) who wanted training and development for school basketball.
Some of the things that I would teach them include: proper techniques of dribbling, learning how to hold the basketball and proper form in shooting and shot selection.
In addition, learning how to play good defense as well as the various types of defenses, i.e. zone, 2-3 2-1-2, and man-to-man. Finally and the most important piece of information that students need to learn is how to be patient and show good sportsmanship.
They can be taught and I will model that for them. You must always strive to be positive no matter what the outcome of the game.
I am adept in teaching Elementary Math. Currently, I am tutoring students in Algebra I for summer school.
