About Rob

I am currently working in a special education classroom in an elementary school while I work on my teaching certification. The classroom I work in is for children with special needs as well as behavioral issues so one of the things I am experienced in is finding different methods to use in order to reach my students. As an example, I once used Pokemon to help a student focus on his math work. Finding the one thing that works for each kid is something that a general education teacher is not able to do so having my work experience has helped me develop alternative methods I plan to use in my own classroom and in my tutoring.

I am new to the tutoring experience, but have plenty of experience in a classroom environment, both as an aide and a substitute teacher. Having the experience as a substitute gives me the knowledge to better understand the goals of my students' individual teacher based on the curriculum and lesson plans if I have access to them.

Math has always been a passion of mine. I attended college for architecture and worked in drafting and construction administration for several years prior to a change in careers. I am currently working toward a middle school math teaching certificate. In my current classroom, I tend to work more on the math lessons than other aides.

My work in a public school allows me to stay up to date on current standards so the following common core is a basic aspect of my job.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I currently work in a special education classroom with students who have behavioral concerns that include ADD and ADHD specifically. This experience as well as previous work experience has helped me develop ways to work with each student as an individual and not as just another student. This individualized attention is all that most students need to succeed and finding that one thing that works for each student is something I have been able to successfully implement in my current classroom position.

Common Core

I am currently certified as a substitute teacher in the Morris County NJ area and am approved to substitute teach in the Mount Olive Board of Education. I have been working as a teacher's aide in that same school district in an elementary school teaching the common core to grades K-5. I have taught in classrooms up to and including 8th grade as a substitute and can follow any lesson plan based on common core standards as a result.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified as a substitute teacher in the Morris County NJ area and am approved to substitute teach in the Mount Olive Board of Education. I currently work as a teacher's aide in an elementary school special education classroom in that same district while I work on my teaching license in NJ. I have completed the 24 hour course for the alternate route to teaching in NJ and have passed the core standards Praxis exam.

Elementary Math

I currently work in a special education classroom for behavioral kids and my primary focus is to aid them in their learning.

Geometry

My past college experience in architecture and a career in drafting and design gives me a real life working knowledge of geometry and how to use it in every day life to help a student better understand the material.

Grammar

I currently work with elementary age kids in a special Ed classroom which has helped me develop ways to find the specific learning style of each student I work with. This skill is paramount in tutoring a student because having individual support and a teacher who understands what works and what doesn't only benefits the student.

Special Needs

I am currently a teacher's aide in a special education classroom and am certified as a substitute teacher in the Morris County area. I have worked with both adults and children with special needs outside of a classroom setting for several years. My previous work experience was working with children with varying levels of special needs and involved teaching both school lessons as well as helping to develop skills of daily living. I have worked with adults and children who were diagnosed with developmental disabilities as well as behavioral diagnoses such as ADD, ODD, and ADHD.

Study Skills

I have been working with students in a special education capacity and have learned many ways to apply a student's specific strengths and weaknesses toward their individual learning style. Every student learns and studies in a different way and finding that specific style is paramount to success. I personally was able to manage to achieve a 3.76 GPA in college while working full time and attending college full time as well so studying skills is something I am able to teach to just about any age student as I was able to apply it to my own learning.

Rob worked with my daughter with calmness and understanding.

He went over the letters with her repeatedly. He made her say the letter and match them on board that he made for my daughter. He knew that she just recites the ABC without really knowing what the letters mean. Rob was calm and really let my daughter figure things out on her own but guided her to the right answers. I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for a tutor.
