About Jacqueline

My Qualifications:
I am a current middle school teacher with experience tutoring K-12 and college students. I have my New Jersey Standard Licenses in Elementary Education and English (K-12). I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature (summa cum laude), as well as a Master's degree in Elementary and Secondary Education (summa cum laude).

I have taught in elementary classrooms, currently teach middle school English, substitute taught in high school classrooms, and have completed four field experiences in English classrooms at the high school setting. I have tutored students at the elementary level (all subjects), in English (Grades 6-12), SAT reading and writing, prealgebra and algebra 1 (high school and college level), biology, and many other subjects. Test preparation is my specialty; however, I do also assist students working on large research projects.

My Approach:
I have learned that individualized instruction is the key to success. Tutoring provides me the opportunity to work with you, or your child, in a one-on-one setting. I always assess the needs of my students first, before diving into content specific questions. My approach is to see where your strengths and weakness are so that I can create a meaningful tutoring session for you. Every person learns differently and I firmly believe that I can understand your learning style and help you advance.

When I was in school I liked Reading and Writing, but was never able to show what I knew on tests. So, I know what test anxiety feels like. When I went to college to become a teacher, I realized that I needed to learn strategies to teach others not only the content, but how to actually take the tests. Although I have a number of proven test-taking strategies, I continue to search for ways to improve test preparation, whether for elementary school or the SAT. I have found many great approaches that have helped my clients and students succeed beyond measure!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
