Hello! I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 with a Master's degree in Mathematics. During my time there, I worked as a teaching assistant for every class in the standard calculus sequence. As part of that job I led calculus recitations and tutored students in a variety of math classes at a math assistance center.
I have a Certificate of Eligibility to teach mathematics in New Jersey. Since moving to New Jersey in July of 2013, I have been working as a private tutor for middle school, high school, and college students in subjects including algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. I have also helped students prepare for the math sections of tests such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, and PRAXIS. We were lucky to find Pam for tutoring my daughter this summer. Pam was very flexible with her times and was able to fit us in for two sessions per week over the summer. We have had 10 sessions with Pam. My daughter is starting a new school and we wanted Pam to help with the transition from the current math program to our new school's math program. My daughter can get anxious about math so we were looking for Pam to both teach her new skills, as well as bolster her confidence. Pam succeeded in doing both. Pam was always on time for lessons and never ended early. She and my daughter worked diligently through each lesson, working through sample problems. Pam assigned a few problems from the book for our daughter to do at home and then checked them at the next lesson. We are very satisfied with Pam and would love to continue with her this fall. She is patient, kind, skilled at math, and thorough in her explanations. When I asked my daughter to say a few things about Pam, she texted me: "Yea, she's very helpful and includes detailed organized notes to take home and look back at. Very thorough and makes sure you understand everything before she moves to the next topic." Pam is amazingly patient with my children. She takes time to listen as well as observe demonstrated skills so she can continue the lesson in a manner that builds confidence and memory. Both of my children have improved in confidence which has shown in test scores.
When we initially contacted Pamela she responded very promptly and was willing to meet with our son that day to assist him with preparation for his upcoming test in Honors Algebra 2. He went from almost failing the first marking period to almost obtaining an "A-" in the second marking period.
He began meeting with Pamela 2x a week the first month and now meets 1x a week. Pamela has been very flexible and willing to move our tutoring time/day so that our son's tutoring session aligns with our son's exam schedule(so his tutoring session is before the exam -- not after). She has often been able to do this on short notice and this has been a huge help since you often don't know in advance when a test is being given in H.S.
As the third marking period is beginning, our son has a 97 average. Although he may not be able to maintain that high average he has made significant improvement. He is understanding the material and has more confidence. From the beginning he felt comfortable working with Pamela. Our son has reported that Pamela has made difficult concepts he was struggling with, understandable. He has said things like, "Now I get it." "I understand how to do the problem."

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While I was completing my master's degree in math, I worked as a teaching assistance for all three classes in the typical college-level calculus sequence (Calculus I, II, and III). I have also tutored high school and college students in calculus classes.
I took an undergraduate course in linear algebra at the University of Maine in 2005, and two graduate level courses in linear algebra at the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 and 2009. I received an 'A' in each linear algebra course that I took. I also passed the preliminary exam in linear algebra for the Ph.D. program at the University of Pittsburgh in 2009.
