In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I started the first staffing company to exclusively provide scientific personnel. I operated this company for 18 years. During this time I averaged a staff of 8, and provided service to hundreds of corporations. We averaged about $5 M per year in billing. I sold this business and became a small business consultant for the Institute for Independent Business (IIB International). I met with hundreds of small business owners, and provided business coaching services to approximately 25. I was a member of SCORE - the Service Corp of Retired Executives - providing business advice to budding entrepreneurs. I have worked closely with Bankers, Insurance Agents, Lawyers and Accountants.
I am a recruiter. More than 100,000 professionals have sent their resume to me, and I have hired, or facilitated the hiring of more than 3,000. Corporations pay me to find valuable employees. Reading resumes and evaluating candidates for the past 30 years has given me a good understanding of career development. I am a career counselor for The American Chemical Society.
I have designed numerous brochures, websites and logos. I have designed Tradeshow booths, direct mail advertising, promotional advertising gifts, business cards, and building signage. I was an art major in college and recognize the value and effect of good design.
Being a small business owner, 90% of my job has been marketing. Most recently, I have successfully created a unified approach to marketing of Students 2 Science, which includes Branding (Logo, Letterhead, Website, Tradeshow Booth), Direct email campaigns, Direct postal mail campaigns, and other forms of database marketing. The S2S story has been carefully crafted to maximize the impact it has on the reader. Understanding who is in our target audience (Corporate Executives) and what they want to hear has been the key to our successfully raising $1.5 M in donations in the past 5 years. My marketing efforts also resulted in attracting Phil Blake (CEO of The Bayer Corporation), Mae Jemison (Astronaut) and Cory Booker (New Jersey Senator).
I have been using MS Outlook for 15 years now. I have installed and configured Outlook many times, including configuring for use of multiple email accounts in the same instance of Outlook. I have adjusted settings in the trust center, optimized indexing and customized commands and options. I have customized views and make extensive use of the calendar. Outlook is a sophisticated program that can be configured in surprising ways.
I have been using MS Windows since 1990. I have built local area networks, fixed registry errors, installed various antivirus programs and installed and removed programs. I have configured MS Outlook to connect with various email servers. I have trained my employees to use MS Office programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer. I have a Bachelors Degree in Art and Chemistry from the University of Miami. I have completed ToastMasters training. I have been engaged in public speaking for the past 10 years. I have given about 75 presentations to groups of 50 or more.
I have built dozens of websites. My most recent is a website built using Joomla, an open source content management software. I also installed and configured Civicrm - a client relationship management software. Civicrm allows users to enter information on our webiste, which is then captured in our database. We use it to track approximately 100 events per year, with each event having 17 volunteers. The software allows volunteers to register online, receive email reminders, and create reports of volunteer hours. I have also built websites using Drupal, a more sophisticated content management software, as well as MS FrontPage and Dreamweaver.
