I am a highly motivated and energetic educator with over fifteen years of experience, in special education, in and outside the classroom. I have a BA and MA in Special Education (certified Teacher of the Handicapped). I have had the pleasure of working with students from the preschool level through high school with various learning disabilities, Autism being one. Prior to receiving my teaching certification, I worked in the extended school year programs for preschool Autistic classes. I have worked with parents and students in monitoring behaviors in the classroom, finding techniques to help keep him/her focused, finding a ways to motivate the student to be involved in the classroom and with peers, creating "trigger" words to help with student's concentration and success, as well as study methods that work for the student. In addition, I am familiar with discreet trials, assistive technology, reward programs, and behavior intervention plans. Since receiving my teaching certification, for the past eleven years, I have worked during the extended school year program; I worked in a self-contained classroom with students with Autism and Aspergers at the high school level. Being a special education teacher has given me the opportunity to explore various skills in order to meet the needs of my students; every student learns differently. I start with one method, and continue until we find a method that is successful for that particular student.
