Special Needs

I am a highly motivated and energetic educator with over fifteen years of experience, in special education, in and outside the classroom. I have a BA and MA in Special Education (Teacher of the Handicapped). I have had the pleasure of working with students from the preschool level through high school with various learning disabilities, especially ADD/ADHD For the last eleven years, I have worked in self-contained, pull-out replacement, one-on-one and inclusion settings. I have improved reading, vocabulary, and writing skills with students with Autism and Aspergers, Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorders, hearing impairments, ADD/ADHD, and physical impairments. I have worked with parents in monitoring behaviors in the classroom, implementing behavior intervention plans, finding techniques to help keep them focused, and monitoring affects of medication. In addition, I work with students with various disabilities at the elementary level during the extended school year program, improving writing, fluency, reading comprehension, phonics, and spelling. Being a special education teacher has given me the opportunity to explore various study skills in order to meet the needs of my students. I start with one study method, and continue until we find a method that is successful for that particular student.
