About Carey

My goal is to work with students, build their skills, and to increase their confidence. I am currently a Resource Special Education teacher, and I have been working in they same school within the same district for over seven years. Each year, depending on student needs, the groups that I work with change. Most recently, in math I have mainly worked with fourth through sixth graders. In past years, my reading groups were made up mostly of first and second graders. However, this year and last year I am working on reading and writing with students in fourth and fifth grades.

Parents of students that I have worked with would tell you that I am patient, dedicated and knowledgable. My experience teaching different grades in both language arts and math has given me a wide range of experience. If your child needs a tutor who is patient, then I would love to have the chance to work with you and your child.

I am familiar with Touch Math, and I am currently teaching students using the Math in Focus curriculum. I have worked with math students from first grade to fifth grade.

As a certified teacher, I have been teaching in the same school within the same district for over seven years. I am experienced in teaching reading using the Wilson Reading System in addition to Reader's and Writer's workshop. I have worked with students from 1st to 6th grade in reading.

I am a certified special education teacher. I earned my Master's Degree at Boston College, and I have experience in different settings including out of class support in both reading and math, in-class support in both reading and math, as well as teaching an preschool class for students with special needs.

If you have any questions, would like more information, or would like to schedule a lesson, please reach out to me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
