About J. Andrew

I used to do training at a Computer Learning Center and before that Comp-USA, back when Windows 95 came out: Channel 2 actually interviewed me that day and put me on the news! Anyway I did day classes for about 3-1/2 years, and my favorite part was when people who started the day saying "I'll never understand computers!" changed their mind on that.

My mom is a professor of education, so I was brought up in a teaching environment. I think the most important people in the world are teachers, because no one, even teachers, would have their jobs without a teacher.

Finally, I was on my high school math team, and ever since before the IBM-PC came out I've worked lots of number-crunching jobs for decades and currently, including lots of Excel and Access VBA for the past several years -- in fact in VBA I'm considered a top expert on Wall Street and have been for about 10 years; I learned it when it first came out in Office '97.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I was on my high school's math team, and I do computers -- mostly spreadsheets -- on Wall St now and for years. Also I passed WyzAnt's test with a 100% score. I already tutor my own daughter and her neighborhood friend in Algebra, so I read their books all the time.

Algebra 2

I was on my high school's math team, and I do computers -- mostly spreadsheets -- on Wall St now and for years. Also I passed Wyzant's test with a 100% score. I already tutor my own daughter and her neighborhood friend in Algebra, so I read their books all the time.

Microsoft Access

I've done Access since Access 95 and currently with lots of VBA experience. My database concepts are also very strong, because I've worked with dBASE, FoxPro, Clipper, and major ones like SQL Server, DB2 and Oracle. I've designed many custom forms and reports. And finally I've worked a great deals with its security features.

Microsoft Excel

I've done Excel since Windows 3.1 and even taught classes. I'm an expert with both formulas and VBA programming, also pivot tables, databases, all that good stuff. Heck, I can even customize the ribbon!

Microsoft Outlook

I've worked with Outlook for decades and currently, even Outlook Express, when that was the standard. I've become very adept at organizing views into conversations, finding and sorting, and contact management. I've even written my own code to help organize my Emails, and I've interfaced Outlook with Excel, Access and Word.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I've worked with all of Microsoft Office since Windows 3.1 and PowerPoint 4, and as a trainer I've prepared and given lots of presentations. I know about multi-media, notes and handouts, multiples masters, templates, styles, themes, etc., and I'm particularly good with graphics.

Microsoft Windows

My career started before the IBM-PC was born, so I started working with Windows as soon as it came out, and I've never stopped. I've taught classes in beginning to advanced Windows at New Horizons Computer Learning Center and Comp-USA, and at training companies they always get latest versions of everything, and they let trainers explore and master software for days at a time. In general my whole 35-year career has been on IBM-PCs with DOS or Windows.

Microsoft Word

I've worked with all of Microsoft Office since Windows 3.1 and Word 6, including working in WordBasic before it became VBA in Office 97. I know about multi-media, outlines, tracking and reviewing changes, styles, templates, styles, subdocuments, etc., and I'm particularly good with graphics.
