Southwest Missouri State University (Fine arts)
New York University (Master's)
I have been involved in the arts from a young age. In the 1970's I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southwest Missouri State University, with minors in photography and psychology of the arts. In the 1980's I moved to NYC to continue my education. I worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the publishing department, and assisted in gallery shows. After taking an interest in the field of entertainment, I became an Art director for 3 years at MTV/Nickelodeon, for many children's shows. That opportunity led to much larger projects in film and television as a Production Designer. In 1990 I went back to school, and in 1993 received my MFA from New York University. I continued working in the field of entertainment. In 2001 I started teaching and developing fine arts programs for public and private schools in New Jersey, where I hold a State Certification in the Arts K-12. I also taught fine arts classes to adults in the evening from 2006-2012 for the Montclair Adult School. I currently teach students from my art studio in Bloomfield. These students receive instruction that surpasses most state's mandates. The lessons focus on the specific needs and interests of the student. Lessons can be tailored to assist students in other subjects as well, as in language arts and math. Students gain knowledge in art history through the ages, and those who want to continue in the arts on a college level work on portfolio building. The youngest student I taught was 2 years old, the oldest was a 95 year-old gentleman who wanted to learn life drawing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
