About Frank

I have a MBA Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University. I come from a Corporate Accounting background where I was able to develop my Excel skills but wasn't as fulfilled as I am now teaching young people and adults. When I am successful in helping a student understand a concept, or a subject that they initially thought was incomprehensible, it is simply the most rewarding feeling. More than anything else that is the reason I do this.

I have had the privilege to be able to work with many students of various educational backgrounds and have been able to help them all. I take my role as a tutor very seriously and always strive for the best results for my students. I can improve any student's understanding in Economics, Accounting, English, History, Statistics and every subject that I have been tested and approved to teach.

If I am unable to help a potential student I will let them know immediately and refer them to a tutor that can help them. I am in this to help people not just take their hard earned money.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you in any way I can!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have been tutoring ACT English for 5 years now. In my opinion the ACT is a more accurate review of a high school education. It is also more challenging than the SAT, but the time constraints are more forgiving in my opinion. Most people neglect the English section to their own peril. It is important to review all sections of the ACT prior to taking the test.

ACT Math

I have been preparing students for the ACT Math section for the past 5 years. It is extremely challenging and equally as important to review all concepts in Algebra, Algebra 2, Geometry and Trigonometry. Mnemonic devices such as Soh Cah Toa can be very helpful but much more practice is required for this section. You need an experienced professional to help you review the important material and devise a strategy for the test.

ACT Reading

I have been tutoring the ACT Reading section for 5 years. Similar to the English section of the ACT this section is usually ignored and students usually underachieve during this section. It is not only important to practice reading comprehension; it is far more important to understand the patterns involved in mastering this specific section. There are answer choices that you should avoid regardless of the content of the passage. I

ACT Science

I've been tutoring the ACT Science section for the last 5 years. The Science section is detail oriented and requires an analytical approach in order to take in all of the necessary information and effectively answer the questions. In my opinion it is mandatory to go over these questions with a professional; to make sure you know how to quickly review the pertinent data and disregard the irrelevant information.

Business

I have an undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University in Finance and Accounting as well as an MBA finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University. I tutor business students in every relevant course ranging from economics to statistics. I have the skill set and background to enhance any student's understanding of business concepts.

Economics

While pursuing my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I have been fortunate to have great professors that have explained the concepts of economics in a way that made the subject interesting and useful in a real world business application. Economics is a subject that I truly enjoy to teach and can help people understand it and apply it to their daily lives.

Financial Accounting

I was also a Corporate Accountant from 2000-2008 where I enhanced the accounting skills I learned in college, specifically Financial Accounting. In Financial Accounting you learn how to gauge the overall health of a company by analyzing its financial statements. In more advanced courses you learn about bond and stock issuance, leases, and pensions to name a few concepts. These are all important concepts for any business student to understand as early in your career as possible. The key is to work with someone who not only has an academic understanding of these concepts but also an idea of how they are applied professionally.

GMAT

I took the GMAT in order to begin my MBA program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. I am very familiar with the format of the GMAT and can efficiently prepare any student to succeed on the test.

Managerial Accounting

I have an undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University where I double majored in Finance and Accounting. In addition I earned my MBA in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University. I was also a Corporate Accountant from 2000-2008 where I enhanced the accounting skills I learned in college, specifically Managerial Accounting. It is crucial for any individual interested in being an executive or running their own business to understand all the concepts introduced in Managerial Accounting. To understand the distinction between sunk costs, implicit costs, variable costs and fixed costs are just a few of the important aspects covered in this course. I can help anyone gain an understanding of this important subject within the first session.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel at an advanced level for 14 years. I received my undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University where it was a requirement to use Excel for every one of my business classes. Once I graduated SHU I worked as a Corporate Accountant and used Excel to create pivot tables, massage data with V-lookups and macros, and use statistical functions for probability analysis. My Excel experience is a huge advantage to a beginner, novice, or even an intermediate user that wants to improve their skills.

QuickBooks

I worked as an Accounting professional for 12 years after I received my undergraduate degree. I worked with all Accounting software such as Quickbooks, SAP, JDE, Essbase, Hyperion, Excel etc. Specifically I have extensive experience with Quickbooks as I have worked on the General Ledger side of the finance department. I can help anyone enhance their understanding of the program and use it to the full extent of its capabilities in an accounting/finance context.

SAT Math

The SAT Math section covers the following subjects: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and Data Analysis. I have been helping students prepare for the previous topics for years and my methods have helped increase SAT math scores. It is also important to understand the importance of knowing how to take the SAT. I review all of these methods during the tutoring process by using a program developed by MIT graduates which reviews all of the aforementioned topics and also generates a score that is commensurate to the score on the SAT. As every student learns differently it is important to work towards their strengths and ensure they execute consistently. By using the previous program and reinforcing these concepts for a minimum of 8 weeks most students will experience improvement in all areas.

SAT Reading

The SAT Reading section of the SAT is arguably the most challenging part of the test. The reason why is that some of the answers (especially in the reading comprehension portion) are subjective. I help my students with the interpretation of the material and how to select the best choice. I go through practice questions with my students and ensure they are familiar with the difficult vocabulary terms and sentence structure. In addition I review sentence completion and sentence improvement with my students as well. By using a program developed by MIT graduates we are able to cover every section of the SAT and improve on each of the concepts encountered during the verbal section. The program also provides a score so we can track progress. Using the aforementioned process I have been able to improve test scores considerably.

SPSS

I have a strong background in Statistics and was introduced to SPSS while pursuing my graduate degree. I have used SPSS for hypothesis testing, t tests, ANOVA and for many other statistical analysis. My experience has enabled me to be able to help anyone gain an understanding of how to analyze statistical data using SPSS.

SSAT

During the last few years I've started tutoring students for the SSAT, and my students have been doing exceptionally well on the test. I recently had a student accepted into Shattuck St. Mary's which is an elite hockey academy where many NHL players attended. The SSAT is similar to the previous version of the SAT and reviewing for the test is absolutely critical to execute efficiently on test day.

Statistics

I have taken business statistics in an undergraduate and graduate setting. Since it is such a challenging course I am consistently helping students become more familiar with the material. In my opinion Statistics is the most difficult course for business students which makes it one of my favorite subjects to teach.

Volleyball

I started playing volleyball in high school in a structured and competitive environment. After high school, I played in advanced organized leagues on the Jersey Shore and Northern New Jersey for over 10 years. During that time I have reinforced the correct fundamentals and techniques of playing volleyball such as bumping, setting, passing, serving and defense. Since I have been playing this sport for a total of 15 years I am in a position where I can easily teach these skills to a novice volleyball player.
