As a current Librarian Assistant and a former instructor of English-As-A-Second-Language in Mexico City, I have attended classes on the graduate level at the Teachers College of Columbia University. As I am well read and have eclectic intellectual and academic interests, my main goal in any instructional situation is to get the pupil interested in the subject being presented. This is achieved via beginning at even the most basic level, if needed, in order to create self-assurance on the pupil's behalf. Without this confidence and self-assurance, the tutorial process will be meaningless. Empathy on the tutor's account is a must. The pupil is in a distressing and uncomfortable predicament and it is the tutor's obligation to change this factor via slowly progressing to the required level of language acquisition via the utilization of conversation, newspaper and internet articles, textbooks, quizzes, exams, student input, assessment and evaluation. Meeting the basic goal of grasping the subject at hand should be achieved when and if these guidelines are followed diligently.
