In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a classroom teacher with many years experience, I always begin my year introducing study skills so that students know what is needed to be a successful student not only in my class but in the future. The skills I stressed were listening in class, having a planner to write down homework assignments, taking notes, using study guides effectively, outlining chapter notes and techniques for studying for tests and exams. I currently implement a study skills program in both of my schools. We cover different strategies using various hands on activities. Then we apply the taught study skill strategy to whatever we are learning in class.
