My goal is to motivate, coach and teach my students with an open mind and heart - this is how success begins. With the right attitude, everything IS possible. I love both teaching and learning as well as encouraging those around me to really feel good about themselves so i can bring out their best. I coach my students in test taking skills, visualization, breathing techniques, mental discipline and more, as well as mathematics! By encouraging my students to identify and appreciate their preferred learning styles, strengths and talents, I strive to bring out their very best and more. I think one of my greatest gifts is the value i place on really listening to and learning about my students so they feel important, feel heard and feel accepted for who they are. It is only then that they become truly receptive to the possibility of growth. Making incredible breakthroughs to perceived barriers and blocks to learning suddenly becomes a breeze!
You can feel confident in my knowledge base as I hold a NJ State certification in K-12 Mathematics, was an engineer for the US Navy for 10+ years and have a Master's in Education, Media Design and Technology. I have been tutoring since grammar school and taught gymnastics for eight years.

Kim Z. was a great geometry tutor for my daughter. She helped her with learning the material she wasn't quite getting and helped her with some skills to manage her test anxiety.
I had been out of school for a few years. Upon returning I had to take a Math for the Liberal Arts course which I thought wouldn't be all that difficult. I was wrong! I hadn't seen the types of math in this course since I was in high school. Kim helped me get by this course. Not only, did I get by, I got an A. I recommend Kim to anyone needing math assistance at any level. She truly saved me. Thank you Kim!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ACT Mathematics section consists of 60 multiple choice questions, and students have 60 minutes to complete this portion of the test.
The math section tests skills that are typically acquired by the end of the eleventh grade, including:
elementary algebra (17%);
intermediate algebra (15%);
coordinate geometry (15%);
plane geometry (23%);
As an experienced Math teacher with a K-12 Certification, I can help you learn and practice the skills needed to do your best on the ACT Math! You CAN do it!
I hold a NJ State License to teach K-12 Mathematics. I taught Algebra, Geometry and HSPA math at a local HS and Algebra at the local community college. I love Algebra and have been tutoring for years!
I have a strong mathematics background as a mechanical engineer with a master's degree in Education, Media design and technology. I have taught in a HS and am an adjunct professor at the local community college. I tutor all levels of math as well as HSPA, SAT and GRE prep.
I hold an NJ license to teach K-12 Mathematics. I have taught and tutored math at all levels and especially enjoy working with elementary students.
Math is FUN! I have lots of trick for you to make it easier.
OK, now think of a number from 2-9.
Good, can you Multiply it by 9? What did you get?
OK, now take that new number and take the individual digits and add them together (example - if you got 25, add 2+5 to get 7).
Great!, now take that new number and subtract 4 from it.
Now we'll change that number into a letter. So, if it's a 1 make it A, if it's a 2 make it B, if it's 3 make it C and so on...
Take a moment and figure out your letter.
Ok, now think of the FIRST animal that comes to mind that Begins with that letter - Quick!
OK, is that animal...
Let me know.

Pre-Calculus (or pre-calc) covers the topics of Algebra III and Trigonometry and is a preparation for Calculus. Pre-calc for business students is heavier in matrices and power functions while pre-calc courses for pre-med and engineering students may have a stronger focus on conic sections and vectors. I am prepared to focus in on whatever topics you need covered. It is best to start your tutoring sessions before classes begin so that you are not cramming for tests when you haven't mastered the topics. Math takes practice, practice, practice.... Let's get you started today!
I taught SAT Math review for Kaplan and I hold a NJ State License to teach K-12 Mathematics. I taught Algebra, Geometry and HSPA math at a local HS and Algebra at the local community college. I love Algebra and have been tutoring for years!
The SSAT Math portion will cover such topics as: Basic Math, Basic and Advanced Algebra, Fractions, Exponents, Graphs, Measurement, Averages and Rounding, Operations on numbers, Square roots, and Estimation sequences.
As an experienced Mathematics Teacher I can help cover each of the topics required. Practice is the key to learning math. So together we will practice, practice, practice with interaction... then we can reflect upon any issues that cause error, then we re-do problems until we both feel comfortable with your skill level. Using a combination of sample problems and instruction, I will guide you through all the steps required to master this test!
Requirement - an honest desire to learn!
Trigonometry is the study of that beautiful 3 sided shape every little kid loves - the triangle! There are special relationships between the sides and angles of triangles. Surveyors and astronomers rely on trigonometry to get their jobs done!
In trigonometry tutoring sessions, I will help make you comfortable with these relationships.
If you are in pre-calculus, you need to know your trig functions. You will be using them throughout Calculus class. The rays that are used on the unit circle form triangles with the x and y-axes. And you will be seeing those sin and cosine functions all over that calculus text.
So whether you are taking trigonometry, pre-calculus or calculus, if you need help with those triangles, Trigonometry tutoring will do the trick. Let's get you up to snuff on your trigonometry today!
