About Suresh

Hello, potential students,

My name is Suresh, and I hope to be a great tutor for you in a variety of subjects!

In 2012, I graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, with a bachelor's degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology, along with two minors in Environment and Music Technology. I have volunteered as a tutor in university (mainly for my friends) and in Grade 12 of high school - when I was the President of the National Honor Society at my high school - and found that the students I helped were very receptive to my ideas and tips. Helping others is one of my great pleasures in life, and I hope to impart some of my knowledge unto you as well.

Having written many papers and essays throughout my schooling, I found that I always had a knack for proofreading. I am also a stickler for grammar and editing essays - specifically for the dreaded SAT. Both times I wrote it, I did very well on the writing section using tips and tricks I learned through high school and even earlier.

Finally, I have a strong passion for music (being a musician myself), and I have written, recorded, and produced a full-length album called Skywork under my band Far in the Maples in 2015. I have drumming experience of six years, bass guitar experience of four years, and keyboarding experience of about 14 years. I also write my own songs and edit them using software like GarageBand, Audacity, and Pro Tools.

I hope to hear from you for help in one or more of these subjects!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Having a great love for biology, I love helping people understand and learn more about this science involving humans and animals alike. I studied and earned a degree in Anatomy & Cell Biology at McGill University, and I hope to put that to use in assisting others in this often difficult subject. Through courses like Embryology, Human Anatomy, Circuitry of the Human Brain, Histology, and Molecular Biology, I learned a great detail about specific processes -- down to the atomic level -- that affect our body in different ways.

College Counseling

When applying to university, it can be a stressful time for everyone involved, especially when trying to manage time between class, studies, and applications. I can definitely relate and help with these matters as I went through it myself not too long ago. Through applying to 13 schools, I learned how to manage my time properly so I was able to devote maximum effort into the essays and personal statements while keeping up with the grade 12 rigors. I'm willing and able to assist anyone going through a similar situation!

I thoroughly enjoy free-flowing, creative writing, and I have been doing it for over ten years on the side. I am also a lyricist, and my experience in English (and love for Scrabble) assists me in vocabulary choice and syntax modeling.

I pride myself on having very good grammar, and it was proven to me by my writing score on the SATs. I tend to find errors that my friends and university colleagues often look over, and I have been entrusted the task of proofreading many papers throughout both high school and university.

As an avid musician and songwriter, I can play many instruments including the piano/keyboard, bass guitar, drums, percussion, and electric guitar. I practice essentially every day as I am also in a band, and I sing as well. My favourite part about tutoring any instrument is that I enjoy helping people learn new skills. Since I have been playing guitar for about four years now, I am very willing to teach the basics of this instrument to any prospective student.

I have helped many friends, students, and colleagues throughout university and high school in this regard. I am very meticulous with grammar and stylistic elements of essay writing, and I tend to find errors that are sometimes difficult to find at first.

SAT Math

I learned many tips and tricks through writing the SAT twice in grades 10 and 11, respectively, and I am willing to share these with prospective students. The math section is very easy to trip-up on, so to speak, but if one pays attention properly, one can improve his/her score for sure. I continued math courses (AP Calculus in high school, Calculus 2 in McGill University) until second year of university.

SAT Writing

On my best SAT performance, I achieved a 790 in the Writing section. Since then, I have been editing and proofreading many essays that my friends and colleagues at university submit to me. I have also tutored this specific section of the SAT in Grade 12 in conjunction with the National Honor Society.

I am a musician at heart. Under my artist name, I have written and produced over 20 songs. I started by teaching myself how to arrange, produce, and mix tracks together using software such as GarageBand, LogicPro, ProTools, and Audacity (I work best with GarageBand). Later on, in working with Grammy-award winning producer Steve Greenwell, I learned how to better use and incorporate automation (volume, panning), compression, and editing techniques. Furthermore, I learned many other important concepts of new media (MIDI, LogicPro, Audacity, sends, busses) at McGill University through my Music Technology minor. Additionally, I have rehearsed and performed live in several bands - for three of which I was the drummer - and, in each band, I was the major songwriter and arranger. On my own album, I have co-written and co-produced all of the tracks. In summation, I hope to help anyone who has trouble coming up with ideas, putting his/her ideas down in a song, arranging songs, mixing levels, or even writing lyrics. I also received two silver and one bronze award from the 2012 Prestige Music Awards for best music compositions.

A very good (late) high school teacher of mine once showed me the tricks to making a mundane, cookie-cutter essay become more personal and stylistically different when compared with other essays. I have employed these tactics to my fullest abilities and have written several papers through university in this manner. My university application essay was also written using this formula, and I am willing to impart this knowledge unto anyone who needs help "jazzing" his/her writing up to make it stand out.

Personable tutor who makes an impact with his students

Suresh has been tutoring my daughter for the last few months in Biology and Algebra. He is a very effective tutor not only because he is very knowledgeable about subject matter but also because he is fun and engaging. Sitting through 2 hours of math/science is never fun but somehow he keeps my daughter smiling and laughing throughout. Her grades are proof that he is a highly impactful tutor.
