SETON HALL UNIVERSITY SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (Master's)
I graduated Seton Hall University with a degree in Communications- Journalism. I worked in the business world in NYC and Philadelphia for 6 years doing technical writing and public relations. I went back to Seton Hall and received an MA in Elementary Education. I taught 2nd grade for 2 years in Watchung. After my children were born, I began working at a Catholic school as a 5th grade LA and Social Studies teacher for 8 years. I moved to 4th grade and taught all subjects for a year. I decided I really loved teaching writing and reading and went to 6th grade when the teacher left. I have been teaching 6th grade LA and Social Studies for 2 years now and love it.
I am passionate about writing and reading and spread my enthusiasm to my students. Even my most reluctant students (and their parents) have come back to tell me how I inspired them to enjoy reading. I use close reading of passages of novels and articles to help my students analyze the text. In writing I use modeling to show my students the writing process. I also use mentor texts in reading and in writing to show how writers make the words come alive.
I am an outstanding writing and reading teacher because it is my passion. I have spent years working with adults in the corporate world in writing, in addition to my 13 years teaching elementary school children. I understand what my students need to write in the future and will work tirelessly to help them achieve. Currently, I am working towards a second MA at Caldwell College to be a reading specialist. I am dedicated to improving my skills so I can be the best reading and writing teacher I can. I want to help those students who struggle in reading and writing in order to prepare them for the future.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
