My bachelors degree is in Speech, Language and Hearing because I worked with deaf children and nonverbal students. I have a Masters in Special Education from Temple University. I am a special education teacher of 12 years in both Philadelphia and New Jersey. I have taught life skills, reading skills (phonics and sight vocabulary), math remediation, task skills and general learning disabilities through 6th grade. I have also run after school tutoring programs in state test prep and homework assistance.
I have tutored and taught many different reading programs including Wilson and Reading Horizons. My students have made excellent progress in reading. Some have jumped a grade or more within a school year.
I am very passionate about helping students with special needs. My teaching moments occur when I see one of my students succeed at even the smallest objective. Once a child has that confidence, there is nothing he or she can't do! Contact me and let's talk. I may just be the perfect tutor for your child. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
