I played baseball from age six all the way through college. I have followed the game through the years and have read the history of the game. I also coached baseball for junior high and high school players.
As part of my teaching career (12 years of teaching science), I taught Botany as a unit of my science curriculum. I did extensive research on this subject to prepare for my lessons. I learned about plants and their role in the ecology of earth, how plants are the beginning of all food chains through the process of photosynthesis and the different kinds of plants. Everything from reproduction to full growth was covered. My classes also conducted many experiments that I devised for hands on activities.
I have taught all levels of geometry during my 34 years as a high school and college instructor. Geometry can be a daunting subject, but I have found that once the understanding of the theorems occurs, geometry can actually be fun. It is more fundamental than algebra and some of the more conceptual math areas. I also was Chairman of the Math Curriculum Committee for ten years. This involved curriculum development of all the branches of math and the order in which they should be taught. Geometry is a fundamental math course for higher level courses.
I spent 35 years presenting driver improvement and driver attitude information to a wide range of people. Teaching Mathematics and English for thirty-four years in high school and college, (evening division) certainly qualifies as public speaking. Included in my background is motivational speaking to people wanting a more fulfilling life.
I played soccer all through my school years including being recruited to play college soccer where I was a starting player. I have also played in adult leagues. Included in my soccer career is coaching all age levels of soccer. I continue watch some college soccer and the world cup games.
As a college student I took a variety of Sociology courses and became fascinated with why people as a group act in certain ways, such as "buying" into fads. I have maintained this interest even beyond teaching. I keep current through periodicals and books on the latest societal themes and philosophies from people in the field.
