About Wendy

Dear Reader,

It is my goal to work in a diverse, friendly, learning environment. I feel I have much to offer and still more to learn. It is my personal/professional belief that in order to gain trust you must earn it and I make every effort to create a foundation of trust for my students/clients and fellow co-workers.

I also appreciate an environment that works as a team, with the best interest of the child in mind. I am a child advocate and appreciate an environment that respects the individual needs of each student and considers my input and observations.

I have been working with children on and off the ASD spectrum for over 10 years. I have a brother with Aspergers age 43 and a son age 22. I am presently employed by the State of Colorado as a one-on-one Consultant and caregiver for families with in-home needs. I work with a 19 year old boy, non-verbal autistic and has epilepsy.

I am also a substitute in the Adams 12-school Five Star District, working primarily with Children with Special Needs, Preschool- age 21. In Colorado, I am considered a Para-Classified. I have up to date CPI training, but need to re-certify in First Aid and CPR.

I studied at Antioch New England Graduate school, in Keene, NH, where I earned 158 CEU credits in Clinical Psychology and ASD certification.

I have worked with a diverse, cultural and disabled population in all of the places I have worked. I have held no judgments toward race, religion, challenges, etc...

I have worked in The Son Rise Program, in Richmond NH, Communication Disorder Collaborative at Fuller Elementary School, NH, PDD at Winchester Elementary School, NH, Montessori Schools (ages 1-5) in Charleston South Carolina and Keene,NH.

I created, directed and owned my own very successful; Kids R Wee, Learning Center for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. I offered a full day Kindergarten with a Certified Teacher, a free breakfast, lunch and snack program and served over 100 families while employing 22 staff members.

While working at Fuller Elementary in Keene, NH., I assisted a young man that was non-verbal but had an IEP that expected him to count to 100... I created materials that made it possible for him to demonstrate his ability without having to speak... he did say 10 new words aloud during the year and a half of which we worked on together.

I worked with an un-coded kindergartener. I created and modified his curriculum and had complete responsibility for his daily learning experience. I also worked in a 5th grade class with 3 mainstreamed Autistic boys, one with co-morbid mental retardation and the other with anxiety disorder and OCD... The third with some possible sociopath tendencies. I guided a small reading group and assisted with end of the year final projects.

I worked in the 3rd grade with a young man that had Bells Syndrome and Autism and another with behavior defiance issues, and still one more that was simply brilliant and bored. Some of my students were non-verbal, some were violent etc... I kept detailed and individualized records of activities, behaviors, antecedents and consequences. I created an individual data sheet for each of the children that I worked with.

While implementing, and modifying curriculum to support the IEPs, I was able to provide a Parent/School communication sheet that showed the highs and lows of the child's day, by using Red, Green and Yellow markers to show the level of cooperation and challenges, throughout the day. This chart also helped the Team chart potential triggers and therefor avoid problem areas when possible or prepare ahead. I met with the OT, PT, and speech staff weekly to discuss the progress or changes for each student.

I have worked as a Title One Teacher (2 years) and assisted students K-4 with reading and Math challenges. I prepared and modified ALL the materials and curriculum for each group and also Coordinated the Annual Parent Teacher, Title One Breakfast while at Jonathan Daniels Elementary School.

I am always the go-to-girl, for supplies, drawings, photography, and have been on the CPI back-up group in each school I have transferred to. I am well organized, creative, artistic, musical and have experience in Drama as well as Children' and Circus Yoga Certified. I am fun, and love children. I'm fair, reasonable and firm when necessary.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
