About Lisa

My favorite part about tutoring is watching a child finally understand something. The way their face lights up, their eyes sparkle, and they smile big , it makes it all worth it, even if it took months to get to that point! I have extensive experience in many levels, both in tutoring and working with children and adolescents.

First off I have a Masters degree in Dance/Movement Therapy and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have counseled children, adolescents, high functioning adults as well as children and adults with special needs. Thus I bring this aspect of working with people to the table. In addition to this experience. I am also a mom of two wonderful children, a girl and a boy, both teenagers now.

I am currently working as a Tutor at an online tutoring company.I have worked extensively in schools both as a well-sought after substitute, as an Ed Tech III (equivalent to a paraprofessional here in NH), as a Behavioral Specialist II and as a Family Service Advocate for Head Start. I have extensive experience with at-risk youth, and those with special needs. I have worked with students from grade K all the way to graduate students. I believe all children have immense potential, some just need more help in tapping into it. My passion is in finding fun and empowering ways to help kids learn, so they can improve in their studies, learn better and feel good about themselves. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) soon.

I have a Masters in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling so I have extensive knowledge in this subject area. But I also think outside the box and am able to understand all the quirks and pluses of this subject area. Plus its my favorite subject, I find everything about it fascinating and always learning new things.

I love writing and reading! I hope to be published some day with poetry, children's books and inspirational books. I understand the dynamics of English and have the patience to teach it. This past year as my job as a tutor, I tutored children in Kindergarten doing Heggerty and Fundations, which is phonics and writing sentences. I also tutored 3-4 graders with reading fluency and finally 5/6 graders with writing. I also have lots of experience with public speaking both in school and professionally, and have learned the art of public speaking.

I have extensive experience tutoring children in grades K-12, but especially enjoy and have worked more with kids in grades K-6. While working at Nelson school, I worked with mainly K students, 5/6 and also 3-4 grade students. I worked with elementary math, writing, reading fluency and phonics.

I have been trained in ABA, and worked 3 years with a family with three autistic children, I have a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I have worked as an outpatient therapist diagnosing clients and working with special needs clients, I have worked in two inpatient hospitals working exclusively with special needs children and adolescents. I have worked in with special needs children both in public schools and special needs schools such as Spurwink.

As you have read in my profile, I not only have extensive experience in a wide range of areas, but I am passionate, love working with children. I strive to make a difference in the lives of children; empowering them to succeed and meet their full potential. I would love to work with your children to help them do the same. Please feel free to contact me and together we can help our kids to be the best they can be, while still having fun, being kids and being playful. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Masters degree in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling. I currently work as a tutor at an elementary school in NH, I worked with all grades K-6. However, I worked individually and with all students in the K-R classroom doing math, sight word drills and I ran a Heggerty/Fundations group; I also worked with the 3/4 classroom doing reading fluency, and finally I worked with the 5/6 classroom with math and writing. I held a Ed Tech II certification in Maine (which is equivalent to a paraprofessional in NH), and worked as a substitute for grades K-8 for 3-4 years on and off. I also work with grades K- graduate school for Varsity Tutors.

Public Speaking

In high school I was the top student in debate, out of two classes; I also took a debate class in college to learn at an advanced level. I was also a part of Junior Achievement and won the speech contest, which was very competitive. I have had to do public speaking professionally for many of my jobs, and recently for graduate school in giving presentations. I feel very comfortable with public speaking and in empowering others to overcome their fears and excel in it.

Special Needs

I have a Masters in Dance/Movement and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have extensive education and experience with special needs children and adults. I have worked in public schools with special needs children, in a day treatment center with special needs adults, in two inpatient hospitals working with exclusively special needs, in a crisis center, residential homes, outpatient clinics, as an Ed Tech III in a special school for at risk youth, and special needs adolescents, Head Start and in a home with three children on the spectrum where both parents taught me ABA. I also work as a Title One tutor at Nelson Elementary School.
