I am kind, caring, intelligent, patient, and extremely accomplished at teaching and tutoring English. I am certified to teach English in grades 5-12 (in Massachusetts), and retired three years ago from teaching English Language Arts in Newburyport, MA. Since I retired, I have taught adults who were learning English as a second language and I have tutored students at both the middle and high school levels in a variety of subjects. I am not strong in math or science, so I do not tutor math or science beyond the 8th grade level. My strengths are in every aspect of English, from reading and writing to speaking and listening. My certification in Theater Arts through grade 12 also comes in handy in some circumstances. I am also proficient in teaching presentation skills, interview skills, public speaking, and social interaction.
More than anything else, I believe that I help students to achieve self-confidence through hard work and the resulting improvement in skills. When a student can see the evidence of his/her improvement (even if it is in small increments) the work doesn't seem so hard anymore, and learning becomes something possible and enjoyable.
I hold certifications in English teaching for grades 5-12. I have a Master's Degree in the teaching of English. I have more than 90 credits beyond my Master's in various aspects of teaching adolescents. Theater Arts has always been a passion of mine, and the skills I taught in my Theater Arts classes bring many of my lessons to life for my students. The highest honor my school awards to teachers, the Molin Award for Teaching Excellence, was given to me.
My schedule is flexible. I will do everything I can to meet with you at a time that is convenient for you.
I hope to meet you soon so that we can start making you feel better about school. I am kind, caring, intelligent, patient, and extremely accomplished at teaching and tutoring English. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to being qualified through my education and certifications, I have accrued 90 graduate credits in teaching youngsters writing.
