Granite State College (Early Childhood Educ)
Hello! My name is Tim, and I have my B.A. from Marshall University, where my main focus of study was music and education. I previously taught at an early learning center and worked with children ages 6 months to 12 years. Aside from my studies in music in college, I've also been a performing musician in elementary, middle, and high school. I have sang since I was in the third grade (and have formal training) and have been playing clarinet, flute and saxophone since I was in sixth grade. I also have a background in early childhood education and am able to tutor in pre-k through 6th material. In my free time, I love spending time with my husband, our two dogs and two cats, and going antiquing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm an avid history lover, and aside from the history courses required in high school (American History I, American History II, World History, Government), I have taken two history courses on American History (America through 1860's, American after 1860's). Since I am an avid history lover, I also do a lot of my own studying and spend countless hours reading biographies, books, articles, etc. about American History.
After learning clarinet in sixth grade, I continued to play the remainder of my high school career. During high school, I was first chair at my school, first chair in the all-county band, as well as first chair in All-District band. After high school, I majored in Music Education and took private clarinet lessons from an applied instructor for three years (six semesters) and performed several juries.
I am currently in my degree program working towards my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood education. I started out as a freshman majoring in Pre-k through 6th, then switched to music education (Pre-k through 12) and have since came back to early childhood. I'm currently working at an early learning center and spend much of my time with school age children. I answer questions on a daily basis about what they learned, etc. and feel confident that my courses, phonics instruction, etc. background that I can tutor any subject k-6.
Aside from taking four years of high school Spanish and English, I took Spanish courses in college and even took a trip to Madrid, Spain. I have experience talking to people that speak English as a second language, and have quite a solid sense of English grammar, vocabulary and reading.
I learned to play flute in high school (self taught) along with guidance from several flute players. During my time as a music major, I also took Woodwind techniques which taught us how to effectively teach playing a woodwind instrument and flute was my first instrument of choice. Aside from playing the flute in my spare time, and at weddings, I also play the fife which is a very similar instrument, and has kept me affluent in my abilities.
Aside from my studies of music all through elementary and high school, I majored in Music Education for three years. I have take music theory, sight singing, applied techniques for several instruments and have all of the knowledge that a general music class requires. I know all of the instrument families, as well as each individual instrument. I can read music fluently and can play several instruments at an intermediate level.
I took sight singing courses in college during my time as a music major, and was quite successful. I am very comfortable with solfege and am able to dictate and sing passages simply by hearing. I also still have my literature from my sight singing courses to aid me in my abilities.
I have been singing since I was in the third grade, which is where I sang my first solo in a play. Since then, I have had solos in several plays. After elementary, I sang four years in my high school choir. During high school, I was also a member of our (auditioned) all-county choir. After high school, I was in the University Chorus at my college during my time as a music education major. I also have taken courses that teach you proper techniques to effectively teach proper vocal lessons and singing techniques.
