About Gretchen

Hi everyone,
My name is Gretchen and I am both a high school teacher and nurse.
I was a nurse in a health office at a high school for over 12 years and 14 years in a girls shelter with girls aged 11-17. My work as a nurse is with pediatric brain injury and cardiology. On school breaks I work per diem at an outpatient clinic and on a dementia unit.

I currently work with students at a local high school as a 504 Coordinator and I also provide intervention in the classroom. I develop academic accommodation plans for students with disabilities. The plans I develop with the student and their team provide access to the curriculum within the classroom.
This may mean developing strategies for a student with ADHD such as fine motor manipulatives, assist in development of timelines and deadlines for large projects, chunking of work. I also may assist with scribing or help find compatible voice to text applications for students with fine motor issues.

I also enjoy working with students that have challenges in their daily lives whether it be needing assistance with daily reading, engaging in activities of daily living or help with development of social skills and habits.

I am patient and I have a very good sense of humor. (With 5 children in our home, you need to have a good sense of humor!)
I also enjoy teaching proper nutrition, development of good fitness habits and can also assist with development of stress reducing strategies/meditation. I am very well-versed in anatomy, NCLEX, behavioral science and sociology.
I enjoy working with any age student, from K-12 as well as adult learners.

I hope to assist you and your family by building your self-confidence in your subject matter, teach you strategies for organization and develop life long skills for studying.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
