Future students...I'm Ron. I first tutored students from my 2nd/3rd class at Peterborough Elementary School, one summer in the early 1980s. Basically, three young guys came over to my house a few times a week and we read books outloud together. The boys also kept summer journals that they shared as well. Since then, I have taught middle school for 10 years, and also coached the boys' basketball team and girls' soccer team. That was in the 1990s, and I taught language arts at the eighth grade level. The highlight of each year was when I had my classes compete in poetry slams.
Since 2000, I have been a learning skills tutor in a private high school, and since 2006 an adjunct college writing instructor. During some of that time, I also scored essays for the GRE. Currently I am working with a college senior who is completing her final course in Criminal Justice, writing a 17 page essay on life imprisonment. As you can see, I have been both a teacher and a tutor for many years.
This fall, I will be teaching College Writing I at Franklin Pierce University. I have also been a tutor at FPU, and directed the writing center for three semesters. If you are looking for an experienced, supportive, resourceful tutor, I'm your man. Besides writing and reading, I am also very adept at math, including algebra and geometry. I can also help you prepare college application essays and prepare for the SATS. Hope to meet you soon.

As a French student, Ron helped me improve my English writing with a lot of patience! I did measurable improvement in my writing. He also provided a lot of tips and resources (such as essays to read).
Ron was available to help me prepare for some standardized tests (the GRE as well as the TOEFL)and he provided a safe and methodically structured place in which I could successfully improve!
I definitely would recommend Ron to anyone, it is really nice to have a tutor as engaged as he was!
It was a pleasure to work with you. What great luck! I enjoyed the challenge of coaching you for these exams that you needed to take for your grad school application.
Ron worked with my high-school aged son to help him prepare for the SAT. Ron helped him define his strengths and weaknesses and then worked on the specific areas of the test that are hardest for him. He offered practical suggestions for improved strategies and provided a helpful structure for studying. He is personable and flexible.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math is one of my natural strengths and always has been. As a student, taking exams, I always scored above 700. As a college undergraduate I took math courses for my degree in Geology, including two semesters of Calculus and one of Differential Equations. As a tutor at the Dublin School, a private school in Dublin, NH, I tutored students in math subjects through precalculus. I can tutor you in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and help you prepare for the math section of the SAT and GRE.
I have taught and tutored students in reading and writing since my time as an elementary teacher in the 1980s. And I taught language arts, which includes reading and writing, as well as speaking and listening, for 10 years at a Middle School in New Hampshire. For the last 12 years I have been teaching freshman writing at the college and university level, while having also tutored the same during the summers.
