About Nathan

Bio

I am in my second year of student teaching and about to enter a full-year internship teaching juniors in high school. My recent experiences with teaching have involved a range of ages from 8th grade to high school seniors. I have also tutored elementary school children in the past.

Art has been a major part of my life for over six years. Since my first sketch I have spent almost every day drawing or painting. My work has been well received and I have participated in several competitions....

My work has been well received and I have participated in several competitions. Below is a list of a few recent exhibitions and my awards received:

Honorable Mention NHAA 2015 Wet Paint Out Weekend Competition
Exhibited in the 28th Omer T. Lassonde Open Juried Exhibition
Honorable Mention NHAA's 2014 New On the Scene
Exhibited in the 2013 UNH MFA/BFA Show

Six years may not seem like a long time to study art, but the amount of effort I have put into my work has allowed me to grow tremendously in that period of time. When people assume talent is innate, I always say that it simply takes patience, practice, and a few good mentors along the way. You can always improve. I would certainly like to help you improve!

My daily devotion to art means I bring enthusiasm to my lessons.

Please contact me if you are interested in lessons! We can analyze where your skills are at now and decide on what goals to shoot for!

Art

Drawing,

Drawing

Drawing is a basic skill useful for many forms of visual art, but can also be a medium in its own right. As an art tutor I recognize the importance of drawing and how necessary it is to build an understanding of value, composition, line, perspective, and form. The components of art are additive, and my approach to teaching takes drawing step by step. This approach is useful in preventing the student from being overwhelmed. However, if the student needs the pace to be adjusted, it is easy to do that as well.
Painting

Painting

Painting can be for anyone! There is no right or wrong way to go about doing it. That being said, there are theories, concepts, and techniques that can make your painting more successful. Sure, Jackson Pollock expressed himself through abstract splatters of paint, but he was well aware of the uses of color theory. Sure, Vincent Van Gogh used erratic and emphatic brushstrokes, but he was obsessed with composition and color. Painting can be wonderfully varied, but whatever the variant, you can find examples of the basics. I can help teach you the basics and guide you as you explore your personal style.
