About Taylor

Hello! My name is Taylor and I am currently earning my Masters in Education at Franklin Pierce University. By May 2017, I will be fully certified in elementary education and special education. I am very excited and can't wait to begin my journey as a teacher! Currently, I am a paraprofessional at a local middle school and love it! Starting in August, I will be student teaching, which is its own roller coaster ride! I have been a paraprofessional for the past three years and have worked with high school students, 3rd graders, 5th graders, 6th graders, and 8th graders. I have also worked in an after school program with students in grades K through 5.

After school, I have tutored students and have thoroughly enjoyed helping students understand the concepts and ideas they learn in class. It's really fascinating how each student learns a little bit differently. As a tutor, I also enjoy showing students that they can be successful on their own and that they can trust their gut and instincts to learn and understand new concepts. Subjects in school can be difficult, and that's okay. Tutoring is a way I can help students develop confidence in themselves, which is something that can be used in a variety of classes, not just the topics I cover in my lessons.

In my own studies in Education, I find I really love social studies and language arts. I think they are really fun and fascinating and such great conversations come out of these topics! However, my experience has really been with math. When I was in college, I tutored freshman and sophomores in their math classes (Algebra, Trigonometry). This past year, the students I tutored needed more help in math than in social studies. So, my actual tutoring experience is more math heavy (pre-algebra, geometry). I also worked in 8th grade as a paraprofessional and found that I was helping other paraprofessionals understand the material!

For English, I can help with proofreading and with strategies to help students understand what they are reading. I can also help with writing strategies. I am learning so much in my Masters program about different strategies to help different learners!

I am available in the afternoons and evenings during the week and I am also available for online tutoring. My rate is $40 per hour. Contact me with any questions and I hope I can help you succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

As a paraprofessional, I work with students during their Learning Lab period. I help them learn how they learn and help them find strategies that will help them in the classroom. I also tutor after school and have helped students with different study strategies that they can use at home and during class to succeed.
