Saint Anselm College (English)
I am a certified teacher in English/Secondary Education (5-12). I have primarily taught at the middle school level while also gaining experience in the elementary level. I have always had a passion for reading, writing, and learning in general. I knew since I was in high school that I wanted to be a teacher. I have vast experience with whole class instruction, but I also specialize in one-on-one assistance. I am able to modify curriculum in various ways in order to meet the learning needs of the student. Students can easily sense my passion for the subject area, and I find this to be motivation for them.
Students sometimes lack confidence in their abilities to learn, but my positive and enthusiastic approach to teaching makes the process more enjoyable and more engaging, thus resulting in student success. Creating a comfortable environment for my students is key to assist their learning. Once students see their full potential, learning becomes a passion rather than a chore. Tutoring gives me the chance to work one-on-one with a student and individualize instruction for his or her specific needs. I love reflecting on the progress that a student makes from beginning to end.
I am a graduate from Saint Anselm College where I specialized in English/Secondary Education. I have had experience in the Elementary level where I created and modified ELA curriculum for about 5 students each day. Currently I am a middle school Reading-focused teacher. Among the many skills I help teach students, analyzing text, making predictions, and comparing and contrasting various works rank as some of the most significant.
I truly love teaching. I love it so much that I want to continue doing so during the summer. I will make sure this experience is enjoyable and fulfilling. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
