My passion is teaching as well as my career. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to work in pre-schools, elementary, secondary, college level and adult education classes. Currently, I am employed as a part-time instructor (working mornings and evenings) at the Adult Learning Center located in Nashua, NH. My position requires educating students enrolled in both the English as a Second Language Program and the Adult Basic Education Program in computer skills.
As an educator I am faced with many challenges such as the communication barrier of students learning English and with adult students returning to schools after several years with apprehension. My job is to assist them in the transition from nervousness to being comfortable; once this is established, learning can take place.
The Adult Learning Center begins in September and ends in May. I would love to have the opportunity to work with students during the summer months, however, I am also available between 1pm and 3pm daily and all day on Friday.
I struggled a bit with math as a child. One year I attended summer school which made a significant difference in my math abilities and confidence level. In the past five years, I have worked with many students on a one-to-one basis helping them work through their math conflicts. I enjoy it.
After taking Anatomy and Physiology in college, I felt fortunate to have a better understanding of the human body. I have substituted for science teachers' at ALC and covered this topic feeling confident enough to teach the basics.
At ALC I work with four different classes each day, interacting with students all over the world. I teach computer skills at all levels, from the introductory level through highest level of ESL classes.
As a computer instructor, my experience began when I worked at IBM in 1981 when they came out with the first PC. I have been with the industry ever since. Although, I do not know all of the ins and outs of the computer world, I am very comfortable navigating my way through and leading students as well.
If you are looking to enter into the computer world, but are afraid - feel free to contact me as I have helped many individuals cross this bridge. However, if you are looking for one-on-one tutoring in other subjects such as math, English, science, etc., I would be happy to chat with you to see if we are a fit. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
