About Camille

I am a certified English teacher. Helping students create and revise essays and reading comprehension/vocabulary are my expertise. I can also help with creative writing and public speaking, SAT/test preparation or job seeking skills. I work one on one with students grade 6 through college. I am willing to work with high school and college students via email when one-on-one meetings are not practical. My love of writing has made me an expert in helping others to write. My passion is often contagious. I worked as a high school, then community college instructor for 16 years. Classes Taught Include: Oral Communication, College Composition, Writing Short Stories, Poetry, American Literature, Introduction to Literature, British Literature I & II, and Freshman Seminar (a study skills/success strategy class). I have also tutored for Nashua Community College's Writing Center, working with students of all abilities, including English Language Learners. I have worked at Hollis Brookline Middle School with students who have anxiety and/or attention deficit issues. I am now an Academic Coach at FSU part time, hoping to supplement my income doing more of what I love! I am a certified English teacher. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I am familiar with many classics. I have taught American and British Literature at the college level for many years. I have a love of literature and an analytic mind.

College Counseling

I have fourteen years of experience as a community college teacher and tutor, including college composition classes. I have the perspective and knowledge necessary to assist in college application essays.

Public Speaking

I have taught Public Speaking at the college level with great success. I am very familiar with the stages of the process and could be of great assistance.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills classes to new students at Nashua Community College. This class was called, College Success Strategies, then Freshman Seminar. I focused on the practical skills I thought would help struggling students the most: Organization, knowing one's resources, time management, and test taking strategies.

Knowledgeable, prepared and encouraging

Camille is supporting my daughter's writing skills in an Honors class and I have been very impressed with her knowledge of all of the literature pieces, as well as being able to understand my daughter's learning style to effectively provide ideas and recommendations on how to best approach an assignment. Camille is very accessible and encouraging - which is important to eager learners!
