About Rebecca

Hi, I'm Becky! Let me tell you a little bit about my background.

I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary English at the University of New Hampshire in July of 2009, as well as completed my first year of teaching at Newmarket Junior Senior High School in June 2010.

The teacher preparation program at the University of New Hampshire included a full year of student teaching, and through this program, I taught in an inclusive seventh grade Language Arts’ classroom. For my first teaching year at Newmarket Junior Senior High School, I taught three Junior level College Prep classes, which was a definite contrast from my prior year in a seventh grade classroom, and as a paraprofessional. During my internship and especially as a first year teacher, I have had many valuable experiences, which have developed my efficiency as a teacher including developing lesson plans and units related to American Literature; assisting with students of all developmental levels in an inclusive classroom setting; observing and implementing effective classroom management approaches; immersing myself in the school community by facilitating the Poetry Out Loud event at Newmarket, as well as attending athletic events and chaperoning school dances, and
attending numerous faculty meetings, as well as teacher workshop days, specifically geared to NEASC, and the English curriculum.

In addition to teaching three American Literature courses, I had the opportunity to work as a paraprofessional in a class of eight, sophomore to junior level students, as well as a class of two sixth grade students. I was fortunate enough to work one-on-one with these students on a variety of academic topics and develop an effective rapport where these students were not afraid to ask for my help.

After leaving public education, I transitioned into working with adults who have mental disabilities in a 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 staff-to-person ratio. I created daily activity schedules for each individual to follow, which are based on each individual’s needs and abilities, potentially including paid employment, volunteering, educational classes, fitness programs, community events, and social activities. My goal was to increase the individuals’ independence, fulfill their goals, and help enrich their lives. It was a great community based program, which gave me a vast amount of flexibility, creativity, and freedom.

I have had the opportunity to see the benefits of working in a private school as an ABA classroom counselor. I worked with school aged children who have special needs, primarily Autism, in a 1:2 and 1:1 staff-to-student ratio on math, reading, writing, everyday living skills, and prevocational training. Teaching the foundations of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is at the core of my position, as well as data input, writing biweekly reports, and case management responsibilities. I have been trained in CPI.

Presently, I work at Londonderry High School in the Special Education department. I have the privilege to work with six high school students for the first three periods and then I am a one-on-one for the rest of the day.

I have been a tutor in the past and would love to supplement my income by doing it again. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
