About Jessica

Throughout my coursework at Keene State College I have found ways to engage students in mathematics. I understand that a majority of students would rank mathematics at the bottom of the list, but my goal is to show them that mathematics relates to everyday life and that it can be interesting. I am currently completing my student teaching experience to finish my bachelor's degree. By the beginning of May I will be a certified teacher in mathematics at the middle school level. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I attended Keene State College and in May will have earned my Bachelor's Degree in mathematics education. I am currently student teaching in an eighth grade classroom that focuses mostly on algebraic concepts so I have become very fluent with this content.

General Computer

I am fluent in both Macintosh and PC programs and operations. I have helped most of the older generations in my family become more computer literate. In addition, I did tutor someone on Microsoft programs as well as a focused class on Excel.

Geometry

I have a degree in mathematics that required me to complete classes for geometry as well.

Linear Algebra

I have been working with linear algebra concepts since I was in high school. I took classes on linear algebra in college and have also been student teaching in an algebra class that has examined linear algebra and functions.

Needlework

I have been knitting for about three years and cross stitching for over ten years. I am patient and willing to walk you through step by step different stitches and help you complete knitting projects. I have a variety of patterns at hand, so I will be able to give you a pattern and then walk you through the entire process including selecting yarn, checking the gauge to ensure a proper fit, and actually knitting the item.

Prealgebra

I find algebra to be my favorite branch of mathematics. I love finding ways to relate algebraic concepts to real life situations. I am currently student teaching with mainly pre algebra classes so I have been in a teaching environment that dealt with this concept area.

SAT Math

The SATs are simply a giant test on what you should have learned throughout your kindergarten to twelfth grade years. With my mathematics degree, I have worked with the curriculum from these ages and am able to help students who may have missed a concept easily learn it to prepare for the SATs.

Study Skills

I am someone who is extremely organized. Many students that struggle with studying simply need to be shown how to organize their knowledge and create study materials. I will be able to help students identify pertinent information, learn how to study using flash cards or other mediums, and teach them tricks to help retain more information. I have taught in a classroom for about a year now and feel that showing students good study skills is something that will help them throughout their academic career.

Very Patient — I am an older student faced with the steep learning curve of being out of school for almost 30 years and now facing college algebra and statistics. I have been working with Jess and not only is she patient and knowledgeable but she also takes a sincere interest in her students. I know that I am not facing these classes alone. Best decision I have ever made, best tutor! ...
