Hi, my name is Morgan. I am a college graduate with honors who has worked as a English and writing tutor all through school. I have 5 years of experience tutoring in the college setting, including extensive experience with English as a second language clients and high school level English and writing. I specialize in helping students write essays and other papers, as well as aid with proofreading, grammar, and sentence structure. I have also worked with students on vocabulary, philosophy, and criminology, as well as study skills.
I have a friendly and relaxing personality, and enjoying helping those who find writing and English frustrating and difficult find their voice, hone their skills, and to share my love of the English language. I also have experience working with younger children, both as students, and because I come from a large family! I believe that every student's writing is like a gemstone: sometimes it might look dull and lifeless when first found in stone, but when taken out, cut, and polished, it will shine. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an AS in Criminal Justice, Summa Cum Laude, and a BS in Criminology, Magna Cum Laude. I learned about Criminal Justice from the best, ranging from former police officers to defense lawyers. I always achieved top marks in my Criminal Justice classes, and often tutored my fellow students in the subject after class and before tests.
I have extensive experience in public speaking from such diverse backgrounds as acting, legal competitions, and military training. In acting, I auditioned for and performed in several roles, including a leading role in the play Seesaw. In legal competitions my partner and I were nationally competitive, and I was awarded 14th Best Orator in Nation. From a military perspective, I am a commissioned 2LT in the Army Reserve, with extensive training in presentation and briefings. I work with students to boost their confidence and solidify their knowledge of the material they are speaking on. I also help them become self-aware of their own challenges in public speaking, such as posture, hand gestures, or frequent interjections, in order to build a strong and positive ending presentation.
I have a BS in Criminology, and graduated Magna Cum Laude while working three jobs (two of them tutoring). I have extensive experience helping others with organization and studying for tests, and ran several study groups for various classes at my university. I help students prioritize and break down the material they need to know so that it is not overwhelming. I have had a lot of success helping students find the basic meaning of the study material so they can comprehend it and remember it later. I also teach several memory techniques to aid in later recall.
