About Margaret

Bio

Hi there! :) My name is Margaret, and I'm currently a Master's student of International Security and Conflict finishing my thesis. I'm an avid reader, an engaged global citizen, and an enthusiastic teacher. Over the years, I've primarily taught children of asylum-seekers and refugees, providing ESL support as well as general academic guidance. I also have several years of academic editing under my belt at this point, and can work through writing with you as needed!

As a recent college grad, I'm extremely familiar with both the pain and joy of academic papers and research. I can help guide you in the right direction, edit your work, or come up with outlines that will convey your ideas effectively.

I am a pro at applications--I was accepted to selective schools such as Williams College & Columbia University, and have funded the entirety of my undergraduate and graduate education through scholarships and fellowships. We can work to make the same thing happen for you! Interview practice, application support, essay writing tips--I'm here to help!

As both a tutor and a student, I've realized that effective teaching requires empathy and communication. I'm here to find out what your goals are, then find a path to them that fits your learning style and personality. Although my qualifications might sound intense, I strive to be approachable and cheerful!

Things I can help you with:
- ACT Reading and English
- SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
- College Applications
- Scholarship/Fellowship Applications
- French & Portuguese language learning
- Academic Writing

I was born and raised in a Portuguese speaking country, and attended a French International school for most of my life. I have led conversation hours in both languages, and can provide more formal introductory lessons if you prefer.

For the ACT, I scored in the 99th percentile in both the Reading and English segments. For the SAT, I was in the 99th percentile for Evidence-Based Reading & Writing. My support comes directly from personal experience.

As an enthusiastic learner and hardworking student myself, I can't wait to help you get the most out of your education. Let's get together and figure out how to make your inner brilliance shine even more brightly!
