About Dee

My name is Dee. I have taught Special Education for 10 years. I believe that every child learns differently, but there is also a way to teach every child to be an independent thinker as well as a confident learner. I like to get to know the students I'm working with so that I may develop teaching methods to cater to their interests. I like to make learning fun! My name is Dee. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I am trained in a variety of multi-sensory reading approaches. Orton-Gillingham, SPIRE, Lindamood Bell LIPS program, Read Naturally as well as thorough and consistent use of the Spelling Connections program that places heavy emphasis on phonics instruction. I have used these methods on a consistent basis and I have seen my students grow and make progress in improving this area.

Reading

11 Years Special Ed experience, Reading and Writing intervention, Certified in Multiple Orton-Gillingham reading based models.

Sociology

Content certified through my Bachelors Degree program in the area of Social Science. My credit emphasis has been on Sociology, Psychology, Cultural Anthropology and Social Psychology. I also have a variety of history credits, but my concentration is more heavily weighted in Sociology and Psychology.

Special Needs

I have been teaching special education for 11 years. For 10 out of the last 11, I have been instructing and supporting Middle and High School Math. Helping all students to be successful is very important to me. I have a strong passion for number sense and improving math skills. I believe it is something our students don't get enough reinforcement with. Through a variety of games, memory strategies and pattern solving, I will help make connections to critical math concepts to assist with continued success through the different concepts and grade levels.
