About Eric

I began tutoring while I was still a student myself. Not only was I always able to achieve top marks throughout my academic career, I was able to do it with relative ease, and also without devoting more time to studying and assignments than my peers. I've always had a knack for figuring out exactly what needed to be done in order to achieve an A, for each and every class I've ever been enrolled in. While I do consider myself to be blessed with a high level of intelligence, I attribute much of my success to the creativity and problem solving skills, as they allowed me to develop a system of learning and studying which seemed to always allow me to take the most direct route to achieving an A. Knowing exactly what needed to be done for each course (whether it be centered around in class notes, online slides, textbook material, etc ).

During high school, teachers and fellow students really began to realize that I was able to consistently have the highest G.P.A. in my class, while devoting much less time and effort into doing so than my fellow students. It wasn't long before teachers and classmates began asking me to stay after school to help students who were struggling. I quickly realized that, not only was I able to achieve consistently great grades for myself, but that I alsoI had unique abilities which allowed me to help a broad spectrum of students achieve academic success for themselves. In so many instances, I was able to reach students in a way that teachers struggled to. I could always narrow down exactly which part of a formula, equation, idea, assignment, or whatever aspect of academics the student was not translating correctly or comprehending completely. Oftentimes, no matter how intelligent or experienced a professor may have been, there would exist a disconnect between them and student. It was almost as if they were speaking different languages. I look at communication between people as a constant dance, and I found that many times it was not the difficulty of the content causing academic struggles, but rather the inability of the student and teacher to complete that 'dance' without constantly stepping on each other's toes. I became known as 'the translator,' because I had the ability to extract information from any source, and break it down to any pupil. I think a good teacher will always recognize the consideration that each student is an individual with a unique style of communication styles, different strengths and weaknesses, and of course different personalities. All of the knowledge in the world can't help a student, if a teacher is unable to to recognize, adapt, and communicate to each student based upon their own individualized personality and style of learning.

Since my school days have passed, I've continued to tutor friends and families in various subjects. I've helped my niece prepare for many of her spelling tests, and she credits me for helping her go from a C- to an A. She says that I've helped her make studying easier and more fun than she could've imagined. I also have helped my cousins with a vast multitude of math problems they have presented me with over the years. Also, whenever I am asked, I review and proofread papers which friends and family send my way.
At this stage of my life, I am ready to begin tutoring on a professional basis, both because of my passion for doing it and my ability to get through to even the most difficult of students. I truly believe I have the power to make a significant difference in the lives of many students, and that tutoring is the best way I can utilize my unique set of qualities and abilities, in order to help my community.

No matter what your past has been, it cannot dictate your future, unless you allow it to. There are over 20 different types of human intelligence, many of which are not readily recognizable in academic environments which oftentimes squeeze too many students in a class for each one to be given the special care and attention they may need to make their own personal breakthrough. I believe with 100% conviction that any student can be helped, and there is no challenge that I can't solve. None.

Don't let anyone ever tell you, or your child, that 'you just don't have what it takes' to ever be a good student. I realize that you may not feel or believe that academic success is within your reach. It is nearly impossible to envision a reality which we have not experienced directly, and for many, the only academic experiences you've had have been negative. Please allow me the privilege of becoming your personal tutor. I promise you that as soon as we do begin working together, positive effects will begin to manifest themselves almost immediately. The seeds of success will first be planted into your minds, and soon thereafter begin to translate themselves into your schoolwork.

As I stated above, the time we spend together will not just benefit you in the short term. If you give me the chance to help you, you WILL experience positive benefits which will last you a lifetime.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I scored almost perfectly on SAT reading portion.

English

Mastery of all subjects related to English.

Great tutor

My 16 year old son struggles with the writing process and needed to improve his study skills. Eric took the time to review his recent schoolwork and samples of his writing and identified several areas of need. We have tried several other tutors over the past few years and none of them have taken the time to try to connect with my son and focus in on the areas most needed for him to be successful.
