About Audrey

I have a strong passion for teaching reading and writing which comes from 10+ years of experience as a K-5 special educator in the public school system. I have devoted these years to becoming knowledgeable and experienced in multi- sensory instruction. I am Level 1 certified in the Wilson Reading System and have Level 2 training which focuses on upper level instruction. I am trained in LIPS (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing) and Lindamood Bell's Visualizing and Verbalizing. I am experienced with the SPIRE reading program, as well. In my experience, using a direct, multi-sensory approach to reading instruction through these scientifically based programs have resulted in excellent growth in my students. Each of these programs have a particular focus in one or all of the 5 basic areas of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Other programs I'm familiar with and have used: Framing Your Thoughts and Specialized Study Skills Programs.

In addition to my trainings, I received a B.A in English and have experience serving as a tutor at the Sylvan Learning Center working with students in the area of writing. I am also skilled in providing students with test prep strategies in a 1:1 or small group setting. I am skilled in the area of special education and have worked with students who have a range of varying disabilities. I adapt my instruction to meet the academic needs of your child as well as their learning style. I know very well the IEP process and I am willing to review any IEP goals and evaluations to gain an overall picture of your child. I am eager to work with your child in whatever capacity you see fit so to build on their current skills, while strengthening what may be holding them back.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
