Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have a Master's degree from Lesley University specializing in teaching dyslexic students. I have many years of experience teaching students with these problems. I have had a great deal of success in this endeavor. Also, I spent a year working in a private school for dyslexic students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am an experienced elementary school level teacher. I taught successfully for thirteen years. The curriculum covered all subjects. All teachers in the school where I taught were held accountable to a reading specialist who observed us teaching reading for thirty minutes bi-monthly.

Also, I hold a Masters Degree in special education from Lesley University. Lesley University specialized in elementary education.

I worked for one year in a school for dyslectic elementary student. There we were highly supervised at all times.

I have also worked as an independent tutor with students from elementary level to adult.

Phonics

I have a MEd from Lesley University specializing in working with dyslexia students. I have many years of experiencing tutoring these students. I completed an Orten Gillingham training course which teaches a multiple sensory approach to teaching dyslexic students. The Wilson Program is based on this program and approach with some modifications.

Piano

I am a pianist who has studied with several teachers for the past fifteen years. I have studied music theory as well as piano technique and interpretation. I love music and try to make it fun for the beginner. Early level students have been referred to me by some of my teachers.

Sociology

I hold a Masters degree in Clinical Sociology from an accredited School of Social Work. Also, I have had ten years of paid part time work as a clinical social worker. I was supervised at all times including the two years I spent on my internships. All my supervisors referred me without reservation.

Great Tutor!

Joyce was great with our daughter at this lesson. She's already given her more confidence in her ability to excel in just a short time. We are all glad that we found Joyce, especially our daughter!
