I have been a teacher and assistant administrator in public school systems for over a decade and an athletic coach for over twenty years. My unique ability to teach kids effectively and thoroughly was discovered through my various teacher appointments such as, secondary English teacher (including research and literacy strategies); middle school assistant principal-teacher (English and Read180 online tutorial program - literacy); paraprofessional; ski / snowboard / figure skating / hockey / swim coach; game director; substitute teacher; PK-12 teacher of all subjects; and long-term gym and world history teacher. My philosophy of teaching is that curriculum must be standards-based and clear expectations must be provided to students, prior to beginning the learning process. Being a coach is key in my teaching style, as kids learn and feel rewarded through accomplishments and success. Henceforth, establishing goals for the tutoring session... before / during / after instructional time is a perfect way to keep the lines of communication open with parents and other teachers. It's important to remind kids that everyday is a day to learn and when we start our tutoring sessions, all kids should be ready to learn!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a life-certified English teacher and hold a total of six teacher certifications and endorsements in the State of NH and RI. These include middle-secondary English; PK-12 ESL and special education; special education administrator; and athletic coach. During my education and into my first years of teaching in public school systems, standards-based curriculum and grade-level testing was a prerequisite to being a highly qualified teacher, as a condition of the No Child Left Behind Act, whereas study skills and advisory curriculum became part of the students' school day. As such, I have a decade of experience teaching study skills and would appreciate the oppotunity to share my expertise with students who need extra help.
