About Kelley

I have worked as a substitute teacher for the last twelve years and have seen many methods in the classroom; some good, others not-so-good. I have worked one-to-one and with groups of students as they progress through their learning experiences. I'd like to think that I can develop a good rapport with almost any student, and the fact that a tutor becomes involved means that the student and parents are taking a strong, positive approach to learning. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been working as substitute teacher for a number of years through most grades. I have a BA in Psychology, which was the result of my pursuit of a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education being turned into a Masters' program. I have taught most subjects and followed teacher's lesson plans. I have begun to take classes for my Master's in Special Education.

Special Needs

I have worked with Special Needs students in various settings, from the classroom with other students to one-to-one in a learning lab. In my college studies, I have taken many courses in development and strategies. I have a BA in Psychology which gives me a perspective on attitude and temperament of students. I have also taken a Master's-level course in Special Education.

Study Skills

I have worked with students, showing them how to organize their homework. I have worked with students, showing them shortcuts to help understand material involved in their work. I have also used strategies with students to facilitate their learning. I have also begun to take classes for my Master's in Special Education.
