Hello! I have spent the bulk of my career helping people establish and reach goals as a Professional Counselor in both the areas of career development and fitness. As a Career Counselor, I have focused on assessment for career choice, helping individuals to choose and change careers. I have worked in community colleges and 4-year colleges, helping students to choose majors and programs of study that will interest and motivate them toward success, and I have worked in business and industry and my own private practice helping clients to choose rewarding careers. I belong to the National Career Development Association, and will be teaching the career development course in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling Program this coming semester at New England College. I have helped thousands of people to choose satisfying careers and programs of study. I truly love helping people to elevate themselves and maximize their career potential, and look forward to helping you do the same!
I am also a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Counselor. Fitness has been a lifelong passion – I began strength training at the age of 13, and have trained consistently my entire life. In high school I was a member of the President’s Physical Fitness Team, and later in life achieved a 3rd Degree Brown Belt in Kenpo Karate. I spent 4 years at the YMCA Day Camp as Sports Director and introduced a fitness and self-defense component to the program there. More recently, I have turned my passion for fitness into a part-time career as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Counselor. My training philosophy is anchored in the idea of total fitness through strength training. That means I use strength training in all of its different forms as the primary means of helping my clients to achieve fitness. I can help you achieve your fitness goals for sports performance, bodybuilding, and/or overall fitness.
Holding a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study and a Master's Degree in Education allows me to excel at helping people learn. One of the areas I'm passionate about is reading, writing, and vocabulary knowledge. Being able to read well and understand what you're reading is truly one of the most important skills in life, as is the ability to write clearly. Both are skills that employers expect from those they hire. I am an avid reader, with an extensive vocabulary and excellent writing skills, and would enjoy helping you to develop these skills for yourself.
Having a knowledge of personality type and the learning styles associated with different types allows me to tailor my teaching toward the student's individual style. I believe that rushing a student towards a goal only creates frustration, so I tend to be patient and take my time with students, giving them the chance to absorb what they need to learn. At the same time, I like to challenge my students - growth doesn't take place without a challenge! So, you won't find me to be the easiest tutor, trainer, or counselor you'll work with, but you will find I have great patience in helping you to grow your knowledge.
My standards are high for my students, and I expect them to hold me to high standards also. Toward that end, I will ask for feedback from you on how you think things are progressing. This helps me to make sure that we are accomplishing what you'd like to accomplish.
I have a 24 hour notice policy for cancellations, but will be flexible for situations that cannot be anticipated.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your career, fitness, and reading/writing ability! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
