I am a high school math teacher at a well respected district in NH. I have been in the classroom for the past 4 years; in addition, I have been privately tutoring part time for the past 8 years (I tutored while I was getting my degree) specializing in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus as well as providing extra curricular experiences for middle school students. I got my undergraduate degree from UNH in math education and continued to get my master's from UNH in secondary education. I hold a 7-12 NH certification in math. I find it extremely satisfying to work one-on-one with students and witness the transformations in their understanding. Due to my experience in the classroom as well as in the tutoring setting I can quickly identify the areas that students are struggling in and focus my attention to helping them be more successful in that area. I believe in students getting a chance to practice the skills that we are covering so after teaching a concept I will give them a variety of problems of different difficulties. I look forward to getting the opportunity to work with you. I have reference available upon request. I am a high school math teacher at a well respected district in NH. I am so grateful to have found Amy! She has been tutoring my son (a sophomore in HS) in math since September. He has a challenging curriculum and consistently reports how helpful he finds the meetings with her. Before they met, Amy took the initiative to ask for my son's math curriculum so that she could make the most of their session time. I would highly recommend her.
Amy did a wonderful job. She showed up a few minutes before the class was to begin and spoke with me briefly to confirm what we had talked about over the phone; she met my son and quickly put him at ease. They began right away and she proficiently diagnosed where he was and where he needed to be. Her direction was steady and constant over the next hour; engaging him at every step. The time flew by and at the end of the session, my son literally bounced away from the time with Amy, encouraged and believing that he indeed could do algebra! We are both excited about the next lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
