About Dalton

I love math and I love to tutor! A passion for teaching and learning has led me to master's degrees in both mathematics and math education. Math can be difficult, but I find that working patiently and offering several different explanations helps any student come to an understanding. I welcome anyone studying math or statistics at any level. For the last 6 years, I have worked with students from high school to graduate college—many of them for statistics. I invite you to check out my student feedback section where my past tutees express how pleased they were with the way I explain the complex procedures and abstract concepts involved in mathematics/statistics.

Two years ago, I taught common core algebra and AP calculus at an urban high school in NY State. Currently, I am instructing at UNH and studying towards a PhD in mathematics education. I believe that my extensive knowledge of mathematics and education, and interest in the sciences helps me, not only to guide a student through the solving process, but also to 'unpack' the problem and its solution by discussing real-word applications, historical perspectives, and how it all relates to the course's big ideas.

Although, knowledge and skills are not all that make for a great teacher. As Sir Ken Robinson says, "the heart of education is the relationship between the student and the teacher." I find my favorite part of teaching is the opportunity to connect with others while working towards a shared goal. What you can expect from me is a personable, patient, reliable tutor willing to work hard with any student to achieve his/her aspirations.

Throughout my time educating, I have come to truly enjoy tutoring and I would be pleased to continue this experience with you. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

In 2015, I taught common core mathematics to 9th and 10th graders. Currently, I study the common core math standards as a mathematics education researcher.

Discrete Math

Discrete math is usually a mix of set theory and probability. I have come to understand these concepts quite well though studying mathematics up to the PhD level. I have tutored a few students in Discrete Math before.

Finite Math

Finite math is usually a mix of set theory and probability. I have come to understand these concepts quite well though studying mathematics up to the PhD level. I have tutored a few students in Finite Math before.

"Clear, Knowledgeable Communicator"

Dalton is a clear, knowledgeable communicator with the ability to make complex information on statistics suddenly understandable. Dalton has helped me to grasp the material in the college-level statistics class that I am taking, gearing his teaching to my learning style. He is not only encouraging, but has provided me with many examples for concepts related to probability and statistics, along wit
