I have many years experience as a Special Education Teacher. I have taught students with many different types of needs. I believe that every student has the potential to be successful and I focus on using each students strengths in a positive way so that they can feel good about themselves and be successful. I encourage each student to be as independent as possible and I will not give in and do their work for them. I have experience in tutoring both ESL and Special Needs students in the basic core subjects. I am very patient with students because I realize that each student learns at their own pace. I will use real life situations as examples so that the students will gain a better understanding of the subject matter. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

During my career I have worked with many types of students teaching them the basic learning skills that they need to be successful in school or in whatever they decide to pursue. I have many years' experience as a Little League Coach. I am able to teach players the basic fundamentals of the game in a fun and patient way. I give every player the opportunity to play the position that they would like to play. The important aspect of coaching is not winning at all costs but having fun while learning to play the game of baseball.
I have coached basketball in town recreation and church leagues. I focus on teaching the players the fundamentals of offense and defense while instilling in them a positive sense of competition. I also stress the importance of teamwork and how every player should be as actively involved as possible in the play.

In my career and education I have written many papers and essays on a variety of topics that have met the high standards of college professors. My teaching approach is to start by teaching basic sentence structures and then turn these sentences into short essays. I have been involved in the martial arts for a few years and in this time I have achieved the rank of second degree black belt in Kickboxing. Martial Arts gives students not only the opportunity to improve their physical skills also helps them develop good habits. It is a fun activity to be involved in.
I have experience in teaching students how to sound out letters so that they can improve their oral reading and pronunciation skills. I focus on having students pronouncing the individual letters, then have them work on pronouncing simple and then more complex words.
I very much enjoy reading. I was an avid reader throughout school, college and graduate school. I enjoy reading a wide variety of books and stories. I continue to read many things from the daily newspaper to novels. Reading can really improve one's understanding and knowledge of world and national events. It is also a way to expand one's imagination. Reading is necessary to be successful in other core academic subjects.
I have many years' experience working with students who have had different needs and abilities. This experience has included working with the deaf-blind, physically handicapped, learning disabled and medically involved students. My teaching style takes into account the individual academic, emotional, physical and learning needs of each student.
Students need to have good study skills in order to be able to achieve more success in school. I have many years' experience as a Special Education Teacher.
